World Cup GDT: July 1st
Tuesday, July 1st
10:00 AM Argentina (Group F winner, 3-0-0, 5) vs. Switzerland (Group E runner-up, 2-0-1, 6)
2:00 PM Belgium (Group H winner, 3-0-0, 11) vs. USA (Group G runner-up, 1-1-1, 13)
Numbers in brackets are group stage finish, and W-D-L in the group stage, and FIFA ranking.
Two matches that are really close in terms of FIFA rankings! But also the group winners have one the previous six knockout matches, and both Argentina and Belgium are undefeated. Will they stay that way?
Bracket:

Should again be two tight matches.
I think the two main questions are
a) can Argentina find their team game?
b) can Belgium keep their young heads cool under this kind of pressure?

I hope they are as exciting as Netherlands vs Mexico and Costa Rica vs Greece!

There hasn't been a boring game in this round yet, and I doubt we'll see one tonight

If you are cheering on Belgium tonight you can now do it with your very own Belgian name!

I'm a little surprised this Swedish ref is still in the tournament. I thought he was total crap in the Brazil-Cameroon game.

Another tight game.
Not exactly a thriller so far, but a pretty good start. Pressure should rise in the second half.

Nice to meet you, I'm RUDY MEULEMANS.
On another note, not strictly World Cup related...
It's been a great day for AFC Bournemouth today. Adam Lallana's transfer to Liverpool has netted the club £6.25m, as we had a 25% sell-on clause applied when Southampton poached him from us 15 years ago.
Nice bit of business!

Unexpectedly, this game is more boring than either of the games featuring the African teams. Seems like they should just get on with the penalties already.

Man, Messi is fun to watch. He barely needs any room at all to make things happen.

Although it doesn't look as bad as Nigeria against France, Algeria against Germany or Mexico against Netherlands towards the ends of those games, I still don't think Switzerland will last this way for another 40 minutes.

What's so bad about us? Are you saying we're a negative bunch?

Who are the commentators? ITV haven't even got this game in the UK right now...
General feeling so far from BBC and ITV coverage over here is that we're still very much loving the World Cup.

This one is Martin Fischer..he's been alright.
The other day Costa Rica-Grecce Gary Bloom wanted to kill himself after half an hour.

I've never heard of either of them. They're not on British TV.
Sounds like you've got a couple of clowns.
I'm half watching this, and half watching Nadal getting knocked out of Wimbledon by a 19 year old Aussie.

Yeah even now the Swiss are attacking and the commentator is like wooooah they better not get carried away here. They're Switzerland.
