Splitting Atoms Poll - Cgy pick Draisaitl/Dal Colle
as the title suggests ...
Reinhart, Ekblad and Bennett are all gone and the Flames draft table is pondering who to take.
Draisaitl is the consensus pick at that time but some think Dal Colle would be the better pick.
What do you think the Flames would do?

I like how many times the same thread in a slightly different form gets made.
Draisaitl. I think he's going to be a top level guy and I think the Flames will think so too. Burke seems either way on him (said something bad, but seemed to go back on it pretty quickly) and with Trevelyan and the scouts in control I think the chances are pretty high that he's the pick.

Both are big but Draisaitl is filled out already so would have a shorter path to the NHL. I preface this by saying I have not watched either player play a single game, but Draisaitl's scouting reports remind me of Kopitar (or maybe even Getzlaf if we want to get really crazy), and Dal Colle is likely going to be a solid power-winger so long as he gets above 200-210 pounds (currently listed at 172). To me, there is less guess work to be done with Draisaitl, so I think you have to pick him.

Dal Colle is a better skater, bigger and from what I have read more dynamic of a player and I think he's the type of player Burke/Treliving will covet. I would be happy with either player but it's just a hunch that Dal Colle get's picked in the top 4 as depending on the scout you listen to Draisaitl at times leaves scouts wanting more.

dangerous game
Went with the centre, won't be upset with Dal Colle though.

We talked about it yesterday, this was agreed as a way to separate specific decisions without a whole bunch of debate about how we would get there, or if it was possible.

I think dal colle is the more talented guy but both are great players and the german plays a premium position. I think dal colle played centre before junior though, maybe he could get a look back there and he is the bpa... Well maybe nylander is but his game is just too one dimensional for me and his mental game is a red flag.
As long as we don't pass on them both for Ritchie because he's truculent I'm happy anyway.

Burke knows people will go and report his every word on the internet so I think the things he says at his speaking events are calculated. I don't believe for a second he doesn't like Draisatl. What is more likely IMO is that he knows he will be gone top 3.
Didn't his lawsuit name a CP poster as one of the people spreading a slanderous rumor?

Yeah I think the center position is more important but my only fear with Draisaitl/Reinhart is that they are only average skaters and Monahan isn't a burner so the Flames first two lines may struggle with faster teams. This is why Bennett IMO is the ideal player for the Flames.

I could see Draisaitl going top 3. I can't see Dal Colle doing that. Plus I haven't seen Dal Colle ranked ahead of Draisaitl. Since I am not a scout I have to go with the expert consensus. Draisaitl.

I usually value FC's lists the most, and they have Dal Colle above Draisaitl.
But as I said in the other thread, so long as Ekblad and the Sams are gone, I will be okay with Draisaitl or Dal Colle (maybe Ehlers, but nobody else).

Draisaitl. I feel if the Flames tried to get too smart with this pick, they'll regret it. I've flip flopped the last couple of weeks while pondering the likes of maybe Nylander or Ehlers jumping into the conversation, but the I Flames' best bet is Draisaitl.
My personal list doesn't even have Dal Colle ahead of Nylander or Ehlers.

Regardless of how effective he could be, I wouldn't be surprised to see them go off the board with Ritchie. Surprised, no. Pouting, yes.
If I were to pick between the two, Draisaitl gets the nod.

Its a good list, but Kapanen at 26? Nah. There's a few really surprising moves that are suspect.

Treliving and Burke draft from the blue line and up. Start with defenseman, and then centers are the next thing they pick. We need size, Draisaitl has the size. Plus, I love his soft hands, but I love Dal Colle's shot.
This one is pretty tough. I went with Draisaitl because I believe that there is a top 4 out there, and he's included. Dal Colle is almost a year younger than Draisaitl, but I would prefer the center who can convert to left wing if need be.
The worst case scenario is picking between these two, but it's really not a worst case scenario because they both are great players. My decision in picking Draisaitl is also because of the LW depth we already have.
Just like both Sam's, these two are both tied for me, but I'd rather have the center that can convert to a LW if necessary.

I've only seen Dal Colle in youtube clips, so I can't say what his overall game looks like, but sure seems like he can snipe pretty well.
I'd still go with the center. A decent center can be a valuable commodity, so worst case you draft Draisatl and then trade one of your centers for help on the wing later.
