Icon34 Predators won't renew Barry Trotz's coaching contract

http://www.tennessean.com/story/spor...=%5B%271%27%5D

Quote:
The only head coach in Nashville Predators history so far will not be back next season.

Barry Trotz will not return for a 16th season with the team, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Quote:
It's unclear where the Predators will go from here. Former Philadelphia Flyers coach Peter Laviolette is available, and has ties with Poile through USA Hockey. Laviolette won a Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in 2006 and would be an instant boost in credentials over Trotz.

I can imagine that its time for him to move on to some greener pastures.

IMO, he won't be out of a job for long. Too many teams need a coach like Trotz.

Did he get fired or is he just tired of coaching the same team to the same result over and over again?

Toronto will probably jump at the opportunity to get him

Good coach, especially for rosters with 2 way players. Though would be curious how he'd do with an offensive roster, something he hasn't really ever had to work with.

Hopefully he doesn't come in the division, particularly the canucks/oilers.

Wow. Nashville just won't be the same without Coach Jabba the Hutt.

Agreed. Can't imagine a scenario in which he doesn't land in Toronto. 'Culture' and 'identity' were the operative buzzwords at the Shanahan presser--those are probably Trotz's two greatest strengths. Can't think of anyone better over the last 20 years, other than maybe Babcock.

He won't be out of work for long and will likely have his choice of jobs. He's done a lot over the years with maybe the worst forward depth in the NHL over his tenure.

One wonders how a new coach will fare. That team just doesn't have the forward talent to compete with the top teams and it's hard to imagine another coach doing a lot better. I do understand that things probably got stale with one coach over their history but it's possible this team front in line in the McDavid sweepstakes next season.

Will likely have his pick of the vacant spots. But also probably time for the Preds to move on. I wonder who they would have in mind. Carlyle maybe?

It would be interesting to see what he could do with a team like Washington. I know they had Hunter for a year and I imagine he stressed defense but he seemed in it only for the short term.

Would Trotz be able to install a defensive responsiblity on the team and allow them to use their natural offensive skills to be a top team or even with his track record of defense are they just too broken to play that way?

I wouldn't want to be the new guy coming in.

Jones, Rinne and Weber are great to have but upfront that is a nightmare of 3rd and 4th liners and guys who haven't met their supposed potential. Patric Hornqvist and Mike Fisher are their best forwards? With Wilson and Forsberg as the hopes for the future? Not great.

I think the next coach is keeping the seat warm for 2-3 years until they get some more talent up front and the new guy is brought in with a chance to succeed.

This season, his Predators were the first team in NHL history to not give up a single SH goal against in a full 82 games season. WOW!

Craig Smith as the best NSH forward and Calle Jarnkrok as "hope" say hi.

Yes missed them but not sure adding them makes the job any more appealling.

for sure going to be a tough job. They have great depth defensively though, should make it easier. Just need some firepower.

they have gone on a pretty good run lately ... only missed the playoffs by 3 points. A few weeks ago, we were concerned that they'd fall behind the Flames, but they have been great since the deadline. From HF:

Without Legwand 12-7-2 26 PTS .619 P% (8th in the NHL)
