Default Neurosurgery - Alberta & Canada

Straight forward question, does anybody here (preferably in the medical field) know who/where the best neurosurgeons are in Alberta and in Canada?

Need to get 2nd and 3rd opinions on a major brain surgery and was hoping to find out the best places to call, if I have missed any.

Thanks

Go to the states for your surgery if you have money. Private care > Public care.

A nurse told me once upon a time, that Calgary is the centre for neurosurgery in Alberta while Edmonton is more Cardiology-centred.

That's all I got, for what it's worth . . .

Wife needs a brain tumor removed. Doctor said that their neurosurgeon deems it inoperable. So we are looking other places. Anywhere really, would rather somewhere in the Calgary area, because we don't want to travel too far with her having symptoms.

Obviously when it comes down to it, we just want it done right and don't really care where in Canada or even North America for that matter.

I don't know if you will find anything directly...but you might try looking in here and then asking some of these experts if they know someone...

Alberta Innovates Health Solutions Expert Database

Good luck...If I think of any other leads I'll let you know

There is a company out thee called Best Doctors (http://www.bestdoctorscanada.com/) - that provides a service to help people get connected to leading edge doctors.

Typically this service is offered as part of a group insurance plan so i am not sure if they offer help on a one off basis - but try reaching out to them and see if there is any way they can help.

Good luck

If you go the US route, Johns Hopkins, the Mayo Clinic, NY Presbyterian, and Massachusettes General are consistently the top rated places for neurosurgery and neuroscience.

If you (or your wife) happen to be a US citizen, and you want treatment at one of these places, move to the US and get an Obamacare (a/k/a ACA) health care plan that includes one of those hospitals as being within the coverage network. Otherwise, I can't imagine what the cost of care would be.

I wish you the best of luck in you and your wife's journey.
