Exclamation CP Lockout Mafia - Game Over - Players Win!

CP Lockout Mafia

“Hockey is a business, and sometimes these things have to happen to ensure the league remains competitive and strong.”

It’s an unpopular statement, but this familiar refrain was sounding again as the National Hockey League and the Player’s Association were deep into yet another extended work stoppage. Something about this time felt different, though. The attitudes going into the lockout were one of solidarity, of an unwillingness to talk. It took two weeks for the teams to begin preliminary talks, with only a few representatives from each side discussing terms for a few hours at best. There would be no chance of a quick resolution this time.

Welcome to CP Lockout Mafia! I hope you all enjoy playing in it. Don’t expect too much in the way of weird roles in this game, as I know many of you have not played before. There’s still plenty of stuff to keep things interesting, though!

If you need general information about anything mafia related, feel free to browse this helpful wiki: http://mafiawiki.notesmash.org/wiki/Main_Page

Alignment and roles of all players was determined by random.org, ie. I gave each player a number, and ran it through the RNG to assign roles. Character name or abilities (if they have any) are NOT indicative of role in all cases. A character who would “fit” as a bad guy could be good, or vice versa. Be careful with your assumptions.

This game isn't all about guessing who someone's "character" or "role" is, that's just flavor. It's a battle of informed minority (Mafia, or NHL in this game) vs. uninformed majority (Town, or Players in this game), and the job of the town is to try picking up on scumtells and lynch the scum. This is how you SHOULD play the game, not trying to metagame the setup (which has been made intentionally tougher to do).

You may roleplay your character if you wish, but it’s not required at all. Roleplaying your character can be fun and spice up the game a bit but it usually peters out by Day 2 or so as people start to focus on finding scum.

Rules
  • If you need to contact me, use Personal Message (PM) on Calgarypuck. I will receive an email and Tapatalk will push the message to my phone, so I will see it quickly.
  • Absolutely NO talking about the game outside this thread unless you have been specifically told that you can. This means PMs, other forums, Skype, MSN, IRC, ICQ, you name it. Please respect this, as it ruins the game otherwise.
  • Don’t edit your posts, this is cheating. If you make a mistake, quote your post and fix it in another post.
  • To vote for someone, you must put the vote in bold: ie. Vote: Mazrim or it won’t count. Don’t use bold for anything else unless you have been specifically told otherwise. To cancel your vote (you must do this before changing it to someone else), post Unvote.
  • You cannot quote any PMs I send you in the thread. You cannot quote any outside communications in the thread. Investigation results may be revealed, but you can’t quote the PM to prove it.
  • Do not post any fake day actions.
  • If you’re not playing or you are killed, you are not allowed to provide advice in any form to the living players. You may post a final message after being killed, but you can’t reveal any information that may assist the living players. Prefix these posts with “-----Dead Post-----”
  • Please post at least once per real time day. If you aren’t participating enough I will have to replace you. It’s in the Town’s interest to encourage as much discussion as possible, because otherwise it’s far easier for the Mafia to lay low the entire time.
  • At the start of each day I will post how many votes are required to lynch a player. When that number (the final vote is known as the hammer) is reached, the day is OVER.
  • Do not post after hammer has been reached. Do not post during night phases.
  • If you break these rules, you could be modkilled, which means you are immediately lynched and the day ends. Please don’t let that happen.

Victory Conditions

Town (Players): You are a member of the Players and win when all threats to the Association have been eliminated (even if you lose your life in the process).
Mafia (NHL): You are a member of the NHL and win when your team achieves unassailable dominance over the league (even if you lose your life in the process).

Cardflips and Flavour

Role and alignment will be revealed upon death (also known as a cardflip). No cardflip will contain an explicitly false alignment for the deceased, assuming the alignment is indeed listed. Keep in mind there may be players with certain abilities (or aspects thereof) kept hidden in their cardflip.

Cardflips will be posted 30 minutes after deadline. Hammer functions much like the deadline, and I will post cardflip as close to 30 minutes after hammer as I can.

Flavour is auxiliary and minimal at best. Death flavour will be unique and based only on the particular player and/or character, not the means of death. In the event of multiple nightkills, cardflip order will be alphabetized.

Only investigative roles (ie. Cops) will be told if their action fails. If it does, they won’t be told why. You will be able to repeat a one-shot or otherwise limited use investigative action if it fails, but obviously you’re out of luck if you wouldn’t have been informed of the action’s success or failure in the first place.

Special game events will be labeled as such so that no one incorrectly assumes I’m screwing around. Flavour in these events may actually reveal player characters and/or abilities, depending on the conditions they were done in.

Secret factions may or may not exist. Rest assured that there are no “dumb” third party roles. It is impossible for any player to win on Day 1.

Deadlines

Days will last a maximum of 5 real time days and may be extended at my discretion. Nights will last around 24 hours (timing will depend on when the last day ended). Excluding nights, deadlines will always be set for 10:00 PM Mountain Time.

Hammer cannot occur in the first 24 hours of a day. If a majority has been reached sooner than that, the hammer will drop automatically at the 24 hour mark, provided there is still a majority vote. This way days can’t be rushed, giving everyone a fair chance to post.

A majority of votes are needed to hammer someone. More than 1/3rd of the votes is needed for a deadline lynch. If the deadline passes with a tie, there will be sudden death. Any votes not placed on the leaders will be wiped, allowing for a potentially larger pool of players to hammer. If no one hammers within 30 minutes, there will be no lynch. Note that sudden death would push the cardflip up to 11:00 PM Mountain Time.

Good luck!

Here is a short summary of what you will generally do on a regular game day:
- Make posts
- Hunt for scum
- Vote for someone

Here is what you'll generally do on a regular night:
- DO NOT post to the thread.
- PM me your night action (if you have any)
- Wait until the next day starts.

Side note: A no lynch scenario at the end of the day is bad for the town. The mafia gets a night kill, so no lynch during the day means they get off free and the numbers will slide in their favour as the game goes on.

Day 1 is normally pretty slack as everyone tries to get used to each other. Don't feel like every post has to be BIG CONTENT FILLED NONSENSE or anything.

Sample Day 1 posts:
Spoiler!

Months into the deliberations between the League and the Players, something changed. The words being used were becoming more hurtful than helpful. The two sides grew more distant on many issues. Progress was halting. Desperation started to creep in for some.

One night, news crews were again positioned on the streets of New York City, awaiting the exit of the groups from the League and the Players at the hotel the talks were happening. They noticed after some time that there was no sign of anyone inside. This was odd. Usually you could see some people exiting the room for a break or checking their phones. Was there progress being made?

It turned out that something much more dire than that had happened. At one point, a hotel staff member rushed outside to ask the news crews if they had seen anyone leave. No one had seen a thing for hours.

“There’s no one inside! They’re all gone!” the hotel staffer said.
“Impossible. Someone would have seen them.” said one of the broadcasters.

But there was no trace of any of them. The 26 people in that room disappeared suddenly, and without the outside world being aware of it.

Slowly, those people were coming to in a room very unlike the one they last remembered being in. There were the familiar tables and chairs they had used, but there were no visible exits in the room, and the only decoration to be seen was a large screen to one side, with a small port underneath.

Cautiously, Steve Fehr walked over to the screen to see if there was a way to turn it on. As he was touching along the sides for any kind of clues, suddenly an electric shock was sent from the port at him. He never stood a chance. Everyone gathered around his corpse, wondering what they should do next...when the screen turned on.

There was a simple message that was displayed.

THIS HAS GONE ON FOR TOO LONG. THIS WILL END HERE AT ANY COST.

An ominous warning, one that had many speaking quietly about meeting the same fate. Who placed them here? How are they going to get out?

Steve Fehr, Town Plot Device, was killed Night 0.

It is now Day 1. With 25 alive, it takes 13 votes on any one player to lynch.

Vote Count:

Not Voting (25): strombad, activeStick, agulati, flameswin, wood, Street Pharmacist, Aeneas, undercoverbrother, Timbo, Lego Man, Sliver, stazzy33, CaptainCrunch, GP_Matt, Huntingwhale, dsavillian, Blaster86, Hockeyguy15, Drake, Oling_Roachinen, Regulator75, Octothorp, dissentowner, Anduril, HalifaxDrunk

Voting (0):

Deadline is March 15, 10:00 PM Mountain Time. Hammer cannot be dropped before March 11, 10:00 PM Mountain Time.

You should all have your role PMs in your inboxes. Contact me if you have any questions about your roles.

Question:

- Do we know in advance how many NHL roles there are?

I was going to ask about a plurality vs majority, but then I decided to read the rest of the OP and figured it out.

Hockey players do all the work, this proposed 50-50 revenue split is asinine. Players deserve more than the rich greedy owners.

This is considered a closed setup game. The roles are not known to the players before hand.

I've been asked this a few times so I will clarify it here for everyone:
If you have an ability to use in this game, you will need to PM me during the night phase with what you want do with it. All abilities are used during the night unless specifically noted otherwise. If you're not 100% sure, just let me know and I can clarify.

Chinese food? Does it always have to be chinese food? Just for once when someone says "Hey what should we order?" and somebody says "Chinese" I'd like to just for once have someone say "Lets order in Italian, or Indian, or something in an endangered species slathered in BBQ sauce"
