Default Czech's Hockey Coach Resigns

James Mirtle ‏@mirtle 17m
Czech coach Alois Hadamczik has resigned. Wrote about the controversy surrounding him during the Games http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...board/follows/

Hopefully it was forced.

About 3 weeks too late. Way to waste Jagr's last kick at the can.

Watching them so far at the Games, you can pick up on the underlying dysfunction there, too, with one example being netminder Ondrej Pavelec having to essentially pull himself from the goal with his team trailing the Swiss by a goal late in Saturday’s game.

Then there’s the distribution of ice time. One game, defenceman Ladislav Smid sat the entire 60 minutes on the bench. Michal Rozsival then got that treatment two games later.

Nedved has been playing more than NHL players like Ales Hemsky, Michael Frolik, Martin Erat and Ondrej Palat, despite a clear need for offence in the Czechs’ two losses.

And Barinka, a 29-year-old playing in the Czech league, is dressing for games and averaging nearly 17 minutes a night while Smid, Radko Gudas (who has been nursing an illness) and Rozsival play far more limited roles.
Vindicates Hudler's absence from the roster (even though we all knew why). Also didn't realize Smid did not play for a whole game. Glad nobody got injured playing for this moron...

I honestly wouldn't be shocked if a 46 year old Jagr tries to go to Korea in 2018. I mean if a 42 year old Nedved can play for the Czech's, then they'd probably select Jagr as well. There's something with Czech players and their willingness to play almost until they hit 50 (see Hasek as well).

I think he should be resign too. But you know Babcock did the exact same thing to Hamhuis and St.Louis too right?

When you've got majority of the other players who are as good, if not better (with the exception of Kunitz who didn't have as bad of a gold medal game as I originally though) that's certainly not the same the Czech's situation.

^^ Yeah, when you're benching NHL talent to play your son-in-law significant minutes, something doesn't add up IMO.

Besides, I just feel bad for Laddy because he's a Flame... imagine if Gio made the team and got to dress but only ended up sitting on the bench?

What a circus. Feel bad that Hudler wasn't included and part of me is glad that blew up on them

For the Czechs it's a mess because they were playing KHLers ahead of Smid and the coach was a headcase.

But for Gio and Canada it's fine.. Hamhuis and Subban were thrilled with their role.

I don't think they were thrilled, a pro always wants to play. But their coach at least had viable options there. The Czech coach was just being a dick.

Just being on the team and being an Olympian for Canada is a thrill. About 400 guys in the league would swap places with them.

and don't forget.. Olympic village.

I saw the interview with Subban last night. He was being nice and said it was a good experience, blah blah blah. But elite level players want to play. I could hear it in his voice. He and Hamhuis took it like the pros that they are.

Of course they both wanted to play, and likely both thought they should be playing and would have made the team better - and that's exactly what you want any player to think and feel in that situation.

But you are correct, both took it like pro's, and I think the point GS was trying to make was that I'm willing to wager neither would now decline the invite in retrospect knowing they didn't get to play much, both would likely still accept the role they had to play, even though they'd have prefered to be on the ice.

Yes that would such for Gio, but if there is better players then they should be played ahead of him. In this case though Smid was the better player and got screwed on his ice time.
