Weird or ridiculous names.
I see people with these outlandish names and I feel sorry for them a bit. I went through school with a kinda girly name, but it isn't totally out there. My name is Brook. Every other person I've ever met named Brook was a girl, though the name was usually spelled with an 'E'.
My wife goes to a website dedicated to babies and pregnancy, and frequents the forums. One topic that comes up all the time is baby names. Some are normal, some are cool but a little out there, and then there are these gems: - Percius
- Novakai
- Xerxes
- Tesla (I love the man, but that isn't a first name)
Some of you may also be familiar with the area I live in; the West Kootenay region. We have places like Nelson, which is an awesome town with tonnes of character and great little niche shops. Another brilliant area is the Slocan Valley, or 'The Valley' to us normies. I love to go to these places to walk around, shop, look at the beautiful buildings, and especially people-watch. Being the small town kid that I am, I stop and chat to people. Some of these chance encounters allow me to exchange some semi-private information with people. Namely names. Here are a few of the choice head scratchers that have completely stumped me: - Sunwalker (tries to be normal and goes by Walker)
- Wolfchild
- Morocco
- Dayzee Fawn Royale Pettlepeice (real name)
I try to be as fair as fair as possible, but some times I can't help but judge the people, or, more accurately, the people who named them. Who could name their child Xerxes?

I fail to understand why people would spell their kids names in a way that screams, "my mother was a 15 year old high school dropout who can't spell."

My brother in law and his wife were expecting their first when we were expecting our second - the boys are 12 days apart in age. Anyway, they phoned us one night, all excited about the name they had picked out - it was going to be Indigo, whether it was a boy or girl. When asked what we thought, there was a bit of silence and then they were asked if they were naming a horse or a child.
As it turned out, he was not named Indigo. I think they got a lot more feedback on that idea than they anticipated and scrapped the idea.

There's a distant relative of mine who has a traditional Dutch (specifically Friesland) name. It is spelled Fokje. Now the kicker is the pronunciation: F***-yuh. Took a while to say that one straight faced.

I lurked a forum once, where a discussion over a child's name was going on - his name was Wraith. It didn't go well, lol.

Peter or Dick. Those just shouldn't be allowed as names anymore, now that people know better. Might as well name your kid, "Weiner McPenis".

Well, when the municipal elections were going on, there was one guy in ward 2 named Richard Poon.
I remember seeing in the credits from Ghostbusters, someone was named Dick Wood.

Xerxes is an actual name with historical/cultural precedent. I can respect that much more than someone trying go be creative and going with something dumb like Jaxon or Jenapher.

when my wife was pregnant we had many discussions about names for our baby. i got rather frustrated becuz i would suggest names and she'd shoot them down, usually becuz they reminded her of some kid she taught years ago (she's been a teacher for 13 or 14 years.... so a lot of kids have passed by her desk). do you really think that just becuz xyz was a brat or as dumb as a fence post that our kid will be like that just becuz they have the same name?? really?!?!
eventually i gave up with suggestions (i'm still choked she figured out my plan of "if the baby's a boy i'd like to name him calvin gary.... we can call him cal")
she would give me name lists and some of the names on them were awful. she later confessed that she put some terrible names on her lists to make the names she liked more 'attractive'
as for people i know with weird names - one of my best friends in high school name was dragan (his folks are from croatia and i guess it's just a normal name over there), but he went by dave. i thought dragan was waaaaay cooler name, but oh well!
there's a guy that plays hockey in my men's league and his name is fabbio. at first i sorta thought it was a joke name on a score sheet, but it is legit. i'm still waiting for him to take off his helmet during a game and see long flowing hair fall half way down his back! ha! ha!
again, back in high school, was a girl named 'tuesday' and currently i do business with a lady named 'summer'

The Kootenays is full of wackos. I shake my head when I go back to visit. Great place though.

It seems like a lot of Indian names just don't sound right with an English ear. I came across a Manmit (sounds like "man meat"), a Sukmit (sounds like "suck meat", a Ramandeep (sounds like "ram in deep) and a girl name "Titty" and a guy named "Herpy" (not sure how they are spelled or if they are short for something else).
I get that these might be traditional names, but I can't imagine it's always easy on the kids growing up in a dominantly English society.

Yeah, anytime a nice normal name has its spelling mangled for the sake of originality makes it pretty ridiculous in my books.
