Surpised there's no thread about this yet.

At least it's not grated cheese.

Saw a sign for it, while going through the drive-thu yesterday.

I'll pass. If I want a poutine I'll go to Alberta King of Subs on 52nd, just south of McKnight.

Alberta king of subs is one of the most underrated places around. Fantastic. 6" smoked meat sub with a small smoked meat poutine. My arteries are hardening thinking about it.

Does anyone remember the name of the restaurant that was in the same location prior to king of subs opening?

Great. For years I figured McD's fries would be great with poutine. I'm gonna die as a result of this. Must. Have. Self. Control.

Tried and it was terrible. Stick to their fries.

Really? What was so bad about it?

I tried Wendy's poutine once, it too was terrible. Not sure what that "gravy" was, but it sure sucked. Kinda though McDonalds would nail it.

They have had this in Quebec for some time now, like over a decade, surprised it took this long for it to be available all over Canada.

I actually thought it was pretty good last time I had it, and I hate macdonalds.

Default On another poutine related note

The wife and I stopped at Peters Drive In last night. They also offer poutine now. It was big enough for 2 people or 1 large person and was good enough for someone who was cold and hungry. I would compare it to ski hill poutine 3/10.

I way prefer Big Cheese on 17th to King of Subs.

Of course there are tons of better places to get a poutine.
People don't go to McDonalds for the poutine, just like they don't go there to get the best burger in the city.
I tried 2 bites of my wife's the other day and hate to admit it, but it actually wasn't horrible.
Whoever snuck the "s" in Fast Food was a genius

This isn't the first time McDonalds has tried poutine either. We'll see if it sticks this time.

It will probably be as successful as when they tried to see pizza. Just stick to what you do best.

I used to live kitty (kiddie?) corner to that intersection in Whitehorn a long time ago. 44th and 52nd. We moved just before that sub place opened. But I remember a lot of my friends in the area talking about it.

Before that it was one of those mysterious places where no business could survive longer than 18 months, like that Seinfeld episode with the Dream Cafe. I even remember asking my friends, hey has that sub place closed yet? What is it now? Haha. I guess they finally broke the streak.

At one point it was even a chiropractic office I believe.

I'm really trying to remember the food joints that used to be there... I know there were a few. EDIT: There was a burger and shake place there once.

Speaking of poutine, we gave Smoke's Poutinerie (18th ave, just off 4th street) a try last night. Maybe it was the fact that it was -40 last night, and I was hungry as hell... but man did it hit the spot.

I just had the traditional (straight up gravy/curds) and it was perfect. Perhaps a little bland out of the gate, but I'd prefer to add my own salt/pepper anyways so a sprinkle of each and it was great.

As for fast food chain poutine... I find Burger King's to be acceptable in a jam. Once in a blue moon if the wife is working and I've got a saturday to myself I'll hit up BK while running errands just for the poutine.

The worst poutine in the city has to goto Costco. Mostly because of their fries. Who the hell breads their fries???
