Default Grantland.com: Western Conference Dominance?

http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/...ern-conference

I personally buy the "bottom feeder" theory. The East always seemed to have worse teams. Or at least more teams just as bad as Edmonton.

I always love reading Sean McIndoe's stuff, he's also posted here a few times IIRC

Looking at the standings today, there are 5 terrible teams in the East, and only 1 in the West.

The Jets will demonstrate the difference in quality as their win % will drop from last year.

Stat I saw on Twitter last night:

The last team holding a playoff spot in the West has a .777 points percentage. The last team holding a playoff spot in the East is at .500

The last seed in the West is the St. Louis Blues. at 6-1-2. The LA Kings are currently out of a playoff spot, and only one Eastern Conference team has enough points to hold a western playoff spot - Toronto. And even then, only because of games played.

Teams .500 or worse...

West - 3
East - 10

Its truly hard to fathom how much better the West is.

Based on winning percentage, 5 of the top 11 teams are in the Pacific.

Flames are 16th overall, but 6th in the division

Yes it's early and things change, but 2nd in the East would be 9th in the West as of this morning.
