Final re-rates, new grids and RFA
Ok folks lots of important stuff in this post so please read it carefully.
1. Final re-rates
The final re-rates are posted here:
http://cphl.calgarypuck.com/pages/si...ers_Final.xlsx
http://cphl.calgarypuck.com/pages/si...ies_Final.xlsx
So someone raised the question about MO impacting OVR even though we had turned it off. Despite the sim creator advising MO doesn't impact OVR, turns out it does. So I re-set all MO to 50.
2. New free agency grids
These can be found here:
http://cphl.calgarypuck.com/pages/si...t%20Grids.xlsx
I'll get them updated in the rules when I have time.
3. RFA process
You can now submit your RFA contracts, according to the above grid and ratings of your player.
Remember the key rules:
All RFA deals will 2 way at 10% instead of the 1 way UFA deals. Any player not signed to an RFA grid amount - automatically becomes a UFA with no matching rights retained.
The other difference between RFAs and UFAs is teams do NOT need cap space in the off-season to re-sign their RFAs as opposed to UFAs where you do need the space.
Please follow the following when sending in your RFA deals
1. Send them all in one email to cphlufa@yahoo.com
2. Include the players name, OVR, and the years and per year figure that the contract entails.
3. Deadline is next Wednesday @ 11:59 PM
4. GMs who have notified us that they are away will be granted extensions
After RFA re-signing is complete we will proceed with UFA re-signing and then UFA bidding.

What is the new rating cut off for Ahl players that would require waivers to be called up? Was 63 or 64 I believe.

Can we proceed with signing ECHLers who need to be signed or should we still hold off on that step?

Planning ahead with my RFA's. So at 29 players with expired contracts are UFA's. Is that 29 as of July 1st of the year or since the NHL's new UFA period starts on July 5th will that be the date? I looked over the rules and I cannot seem to find the cut off date to determine when a player is a UFA. Could be right in front of me so I apologize if it is.

29 is ufa
28 is rfa
So if your RFA is 28 and you want to avoid his UFA status next year, sign him to a 3 year deal now.

Yeah, but with a 27 year old i'd want to sign for a 1 yr deal and then do three years next year. If a player just turned 28 last week then I would want to know the cut off date for next season. Is it todays date? July 1st, July 5th etc etc. If its July 1st or 5th then the player will only be 28 for next year and then he would wouldn't need a 3 year deal this year, only the 1 year and then do the 3 year RFA grid next year.

Don't look at players actual birthdate as to when they turn 28. Your 27 year old player will simply turn 28 in the next rollover (2014 off-season). Make sense?

Go by the age on your roster page, not actual birth date. So if your guy is 27 now and a RFA, sign him to a 1 year deal. next year at rollover he will be 28, an RFA again and sign him to a 3 year.

Is there a reason why it is no difference in cap hit for signing a RFA for one season or a UFA for 3
Right now it seems that a players second contract is higher then resigning UFA's and preventing them from going to FA. Thats way backwards

Yeah you know that does seem a little screwed up doesn't it?
I'll look at it - but the RFA grid is fine for sure. I think we may need to adjust the UFA grid to address that. Thanks for raising it Doug.

I'm not sure if this is what Doug meant, but what he said got me thinking about the whole grid system more and it looks to me like you'd be better off signing a 28 year old to a 2 year deal rather than 3 (if he's a $10 Mil player).
Over 4 years from 28 on:
A) RFA - 3 x $9.5 = 28.5 + One UFA year @ $10 = $38.5 M over 4 years.
B) RFA - 2 x $9.0 = 18 + Two UFA years @ $10 = $38.0 M
C) RFA - 1 x $8.5 = 8.5 + Three UFA years @ $10 = $38.5 M
So as it sits right now, there is really no advantage to getting him signed to 3 years in his last RFA year just to save a measly $500k / year.

On the RFA grid the lowest rated players used to get signed to a 10%, 25% or 50% increase, for example an AHL player who is making 0.5 MIL could get resigned for 3 years at 0.75 MIL. Based on this grid are we saying we now would be signing that type of player for 1.5 MIL?
