Go 20 years ago before it became too popular.

Don't go to the city at night, and if you're taking a cab anywhere negotiate a price before getting in. Of my few trips to Mexico in the last while, Cabo was the worst. I was just 18 when I went
Make sure your resort has a decent pool, cause your kids wont be able to go out in the water with the dangerous rip tides

You can totally pick up broads at El Squid Roe, Cabo Wabo, and the Hanging Marlin. Like shooting fish in a barrel.
Nowhere Bar and The Office are good places to get hammered.

If you want something quieter, go to San Jose. It's the airport you fly in to. Small town feel and VERY safe. $30 taxi ride into Cabo or else take the Collectivo for about $3/pp.
Very safe place. I don't know how old your kids are, but there is everything that the usual mexico has to offer. Ziplines, trail rides, ATV's, fishing, etc. Also, we drunkinly walked around Cabo at 4am up and down side streets while bar hopping. Not once did we feel unsafe or sketchy. It's a lot safer than people think. Pm me if you have any questions

I'd suggest going to Hawaii instead. Family-friendly, safe, stunningly beautiful scenery, and you don't have to be stuck in some crappy gated resort that just looks like a Phoenix suburb.
Or take a risk and get out of North America. Traveling outside of your own culture will do amazing things for you and your kids' perspective on life.

CP Travel Advice Thread Checklist:
- "I went before it became mainstream" CHECK
- Crap on poster's destination choice CHECK
- "I'm too good for all-inclusives" CHECK
- Suggestion to go somewhere completely different than the poster has already decided upon CHECK
- Sanctimonious cultural post, while completely disregarding any potential financial obstacles for a family trip CHECK
- Minority of posts that actually offer advice pertaining to the poster's destination CHECK
Anyways, I haven't been to Cabo but I from what I've read the Royal Solaris is a good choice for kids. Has a waterpark and whatnot.

Cabo is a great family destination with lots of activities outside of the resort; ATV's, surfing, dolphins were some of our families favorites. Not sure how you feel about fishing but it's the marlin capital of the world.
Night life in Cabo was excellent and it felt very safe all the time. If you are staying in town make sure to hit up some of the restaurants, lots of american quality food.

If you do go, hit Sanata Maria Beach, just east of town.

^^ I'm guessing that's swimmable. Does anyone have a list of which beaches are swimmable?

rube, I especially enjoyed the little throwaway suggestion at the end to make yourself feel a little constructive after that rant. What else have you read about?
