Default Anyone drive to Montana frequently?

Hey there, CP.
I'm still around, I just never post anymore.

So here's my story.
I'm going to a wedding over in South Dakota at the end of next week. Everyone in the party is flying - I don't really feel like it. I'd rather use this opportunity to see a region of the continent I'd likely never have a good reason to otherwise. Problem is, it seems there is little (read: no) bus service that takes us anywhere near the border (unless you're on the west coast, or in Ontario). I would love to see the big sky of the midwest on my way; it seems, however, my options are limited.

Thing is, if I can get INTO the States, then a bus to SD is easy and cheap. I really want to have this little adventure. I'm bringing a tent and I want to rough it a bit.

So my question to you is: do you or anyone you know make trips down into MT, and/or, do you know of anyone heading that way at the beginning of next week?

It's been real frustrating trying to find a way into that part of the USA that isn't by air. Kijiji rideshare is coming up empty so far. CP, you're my last resort before I swallow the big airplane pill.

Thanks CP, I always loved you.

I just got back from South Dakota on Saturday. We drove this way on the way there and it was super boring! Made it to Billings the first night. http://goo.gl/maps/kV4j6

On the way back we drove this way http://goo.gl/maps/2bwOx and it was awesome. We got to stop at Devils Tower and also got to see some beautiful scenery. We were pleasantly surprised after being really down on how boring Montana was that the western side offered a very scenic drive and well worth the additional time in my wife and I's opinion (at this time our son just wanted to go home). We left really early from Rapid City on the way home (around 6:00AMish - we felt refreshed so it was time to go) and made it to Great Falls the first night.

That doesn't help you get into the States, but it lets you know a way into Montana to avoid.

Sorry, just curious: Is there a reason you can't drive to Montana yourself? Also, how were you planning on coming back?

Someday I'll have to drive down to Shelby, MT and take the train east (to Chicago) or west (to Seattle).

I don't own a car. That's the only reason really.
Anyway, I caved and bought a flight.

I'll still make an adventure of it on the way back as I'm not going to plan anything. I'll see if I can hitchhike the whole way. If you never hear from me again, you know why.
