Matt Pelech is in tonight's SJ Sharks lineup
Pelech has been converted to a forward while playing in Worcester (SJ AHL affiliate). The sharks are lacking toughness with Andrew Desjardins out of the lineup and Clowe has been in the box FAR too much this season (leading the league in PIM last I saw)
From: http://blogs.mercurynews.com/sharks/...ness-and-more/
McLelllan described Pelech as a “utility guy” who earned his shot at this level.
“A little more size and a little more strength then we’ve had there,” the coach said.
Any comments? Wellwishing? Anyone still as fan of Pelech? I seem to remember calls for having him play while in the CGY organization.
Played 5 games for the big team in 08-09 - 3 assists/9 PIM

Good for him. Interesting that he was converted to a forward.

Never had the positional awareness to overcome his lack of foot speed but wish him the best in SJ. Can't bring myself to go back and look at who we could've taken instead.

Best wishes in SJ, no hard feelings. Seemed like a great guy, injuries just really set him back.

I absolutely do wish him well. Seemed like a guy that would do anything for the team but just didn't have the speed or skill to make it.
On the downside, it's a name that will always remind me of the ridiculous statistical anomoly that was the draft lottery after the lockout. How a team that had as many pingpong balls as anybody ended up with one of the last picks still pisses me off. The dropoff between Sidney Crosby and Matt Pelech is relatively wide!

Lotto winner picked 1st; then went to the 30th pick and Down; flames were picked like 5th and should have had Kopitar.

Didn't the Flames go off the board for Pelech?

I saw him play against the Marlies several times in 2010 and he was far and away the best defenseman on the ice.

Even if they had to draft a defenceman, Marc-Eduoard Vlassic was taken 35th.
Seems like with the Sharks losing Frazer McLaren on waivers, Pelech will get a chance to play that role.

I liked him when he played in Belleville and was looking forward to seeing him with the Flames. Unfortunately that didn't work out, but I wish him all the best.

That's not how it worked at all. Balls were drawn and picks awarded in order from 1st to 30th so teams with more balls had a better shot at a higher pick. That's why 9 of the last 11 picks were awarded to teams with only 1 ball while 7 of the first 8 picks were awarded to teams with 2 or 3 balls. Calgary just got really unlucky (as did Edmonton).
