Default Best driving route - Montana to Wyoming

Kind of an odd question, but I'm looking at driving from Whitefish, MT to Jackson, WY. Has anybody taken this trip? Wondering which the better route is, the MT-83 (through Butte), or the US-93 (thru Missoula). Total difference is about 35km, fairly negligible. So I'm basically looking for the best stretch of highway.

Thanks.

Take 90 and get onto 287 if you can. 287 is one of the nicest stretches of highway in the Western States IMO. Will pass Hebgen Lake, Quake Lake, Ennis all along the Madison River snaking throuh the Mountains/Foothills. When you say best stretch of highway from a view perspective this would be it but may not be the fastest route and will have to get off 287 at some point.

Also Rexburg is close by.....stop in at Bear World!

if you go off of the beaten path (as recommended above), you may want to ensure the hiway is open before heading down there.

one spring i tried to come back from seattle thru snoqualamie (sp?) - drove for a ways and then found out the road was closed, had to double back.

I should have clarified. Best being fastest, most likely to be plowed, and least likely to be closed.

This trip is about the destination, not the journey.

I found one other option that looked okay - 93/I90/I15. An extra 58kms, but keeps me on the interstate most of the way.

Yep, once you leave the interstate, road conditions can get awful in a hurry.
Fastest is not the I90/I15 route, but if you do encounter poor driving conditions, accidents or closures, you'll lose a lot more time. I found the cross winds in that region to be especially bad this time of year.

Interstates are most likely to be plowed, multi-lane and will have gas/amenities.
