Quick question: Airdrie or Stoney trail to get to Canmore from Saskatoon?
Topic says it all, is it faster to go through Aridrie-Cochrane-Trans Can or Stoney Trail-Trans Can..
On a Sunday afternoon, returning on a Fri or Sat afternoon.

Stoney. Wide open and fast. If you're coming from the east anyways, just jump on stoney from the Trans Canada and your set.

his set?
Other than spelling, jar_e is correct in his post. You should note that there are no services, lunch/gas on Stoney. If your plan is to gas/eat, stay on 16th Ave. Sorry those times of day it will be busy, read your post as Sunday for some reason.

Stoney for sure... Airdrie to Calaway park got a heck of a lot easier when Stoney opened

Stoney.
Assuming you'll be getting onto it from Hwy 2 southbound.

I strongly disagree. Going through Airdie would be the best route.
If you go through Airdrie you can get to downtown in 20 minutes flat guaranteed if you wanted to check out some cool attractions while on your travels. It wouldn't be much of a detour. Deerfoot rips and I live in Airdrie and it taks me 20 minutes door to door from Airdrie to my office downtown. I just don't get why other people don't live in Airdrie.

He can get onto it that way, but also coming from the east on Trans Canada.
Guess it depends what route out of SK he is taking.
Keeping in mind to take the north route around city; since it's not a true "ring-road".

From Saskatoon, you wouldn't be coming in on the Trans Canada (not if the fastest route were the priority).

too bad you're in a rush, I'd actually recommend the 1A from Cochrane to Canmore, much nicer drive but not if you're trying to make time.

you may want to keep this secret to yourself, otherwise everyone will move to airdrie and your commute time will stretch to 24 or 25 minutes.

Usually we would come in through Beiserker, to the 2, then exit off the 2 through Airdrie to Cochrane then down to the Trans Canada. Avoids a lot of high way and Calgary traffic.
Here is the usual route give or take
There is a strip between Kindersely and Hannah where you wonder if life is worth living anymore, but after that things pick up.
I haven't tried taking Stoney since it was completed though and have heard from others it is a lot faster and not bad for traffic. The only people who come in on the Trans Can belong to this hole in the ground called Regina. Also I avoid Drumheller at all costs.. I had a bathroom 'incident' there a while ago involving a nasty heroine beer induced poop where I may have scarred a little boy for life.

The first 75% of the trip will take you to Beiseker on Highway 9.
From there, Google says to stay on 9 until 567 south of Irricana to Airdrie; but personally, I'd stay on 72 west of Beiseker to Highway 2. Going all the way down to Highway 1 seems like it adds a lot of needless backtracking (and at least 10 minutes, according to Google).

If you are stopping in Cochrane, then Airdrie to cochrane via big hill springs road to hwy 22 is the quickest. But going to Canmore, stay on Stoney, go to hwy 1 then out to Canmore. Driving through Cochrane to hwy 1 can be slow. 4 sets of lights now, and old people who like to do 80km/hr along the 22.

I assume the question was to go directly west of Airdrie, or head south and use Stoney. If that is what was meant, the answer is Stoney.
