Default Yesterday was John Candy's birthday

I still call him the best comedic actor this country has ever produced. Saw a few specials last night that mentioned him. Thought I'd start a thread for anyone to share any of their favorite moments of him on SCTV or in his movies. He seemed to be an incredible person off the screen and represent Canada incredibly well. Represented a time where comedy was not cynical or cutting down of anyone else.

For me, Uncle Buck gets me every time. So many favorite scenes, but the one that always stuck with me was the talk in the principles office and the quarter to go have a rat naw that "thing" off.

My uncle was his friend, said he was an awsome guy and that it was devastating when he died. He wasn't my kind of comedian, but he was a great Canadian.

For 90 minutes he makes you laugh and then, before you even know what's happening, he's making you cry. One of the most underappreciated acting jobs (and films in general) of all time.

I always thought he deserved an oscar nomination for that role. Comedy is always underappreciated at the oscars.

He was a comedic staple during my childhood. Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Harry Crumb, and Canadian Bacon are some of the few movies that come to mind that I've watched over and over again as a kid.

Such a shame he was lost so young.

Nothing reminds me of John Candy as much as this music.

SCTV, Stripes, Splash, Summer Rental, Armed and Dangerous, Spaceballs, Planes/Tranes, The Great Outdoors, Uncle Buck, Cool Runnings and a great dramatic turn in JFK. One of my favourite comedians of all time.

I remember showing up to the set of Cool Runnings at something crazy like 5am and then waiting with all the extras and the rest of the cast for him to show up at 9am and in rough shape. We practiced walking through the airport about 80 times while we waited. Pretty sad that we were witnessing the beginning of his downfall. He apologized sheepishly, but you could tell things weren't right with that guy by then.

I love his laugh. It's very contagious and always makes me smile. I wish we didn't lose him so early. I strongly feel he would still be relevant in today's movies and comedy. He was just such a loveable guy.

Dewey Oxberger is a lean, mean...FIGHTIN' MACHINE!!!!!!

A lot of John Candy's movies weren't great, but they were worth watching because of how his personality came off the screen.

My favourite JC character - Doctor Tongue:
