Default deals on renting a car?

Hey CP

Was planning a trip to London, Ont. next month for a wedding and need to rent a car. I've heard of some people getting great rates, like 9.99 per day, or 19.99 per day with unlimited km, etc.

Only things I can find when I go to some of the travel sites seem to be fairly high.

So, I ask, how am I able to get a great deal on a rental car in another province? Any tips from other CPers?

Thanks!

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Seems to me that the deals are mostly in the states, but keep working Hotwire and other sites and you should be able to find something.

Ohh...... GMG... my morning experience with Discount is still seared in my memory.

Never again. I will always go Enterprise.

Here is my quick search of Enterprise for London, ON.

Starting at $19.99 / day

RedFlagDeals has a forum thread about car rentals as well. The deals I've found are never very good in Canada.

Check the local yellow pages and kijiji for the area, sometimes there are private local car rental companies that will undercut the big guys.

I read your blog piece and it sounds like Discount is run by a bunch of Idiots. I probably would have lost it on the gal and told her where to stuff her cars. Btw congrats on losing the 25 lbs

I felt bad for the other people who were still stuck there waiting.

I sometimes rent a car through Enterprise on weekends and it is generally $10 - $15 per day.

My uncle travels a ton for work, and he swears by Hotwire.com for car rentals.

I've had good luck with Expedia, and Costco if you're a member. Also, the RFD car rental threads.

Seems each time it's a different one that gets me the best deal though...

I use Kayak to find the lowest price, then use the costco.com coupon codes to reduce this price further with whichever rental agency is lower.

That usually works for me.

The most important advice about renting a car is always, always book as soon as you know you are traveling. Car rental prices usually go up, and if they go down there is zero penalty for cancelling then re-booking.

I often check a day or two before I leave and see if the price has changed, and if so re-book.
