Default What makes your life easier (Update: Neato vac at Costco.ca)

Just figured I'd share a couple things (gadgets) that I'm absolutely thrilled with. After being a non believer of both items and a late adopter, these are things I could not live without now.

For cat owners the Cat Genie;

http://www.catgenie.com/

Watch the videos, and try it. Available at costco.ca as well so you get the great return policy if it doesn't suit you. I haven't looked at a litterbox in months, it's absolutely amazing, toilet for a cat. The only downside is the cartridges are $20 a piece but they tend to last 3 months. Consumables may be more expensive over the year to own instead of a regular box. Well worth it though!

Password manager. http://www.lastpass.com I only have to remember one password and it generates really secure passwords for banking.

Last but not least the automatic vacuum. Not quite as known as the Roomba but the Neato XV-11 is a better machine hands down. This thing maps out you house and finds it's way around furniture and back to home base for charging etc... Roomba's are random but this thing goes in straight lines and doesn't miss anywhere. Leaves great straight vacuum lines in the carpet that looks like a well manicured lawn. Works well on hard floors as well. We could not believe the crap that this thing picks up. I'd suggest it is as good if not better than our central vac. We go around and pick up everything off the floor (toys etc... we have kids) and then push the go button and leave for the day. If we didn't have kids to pick up after we would schedule it to run daily but we're not sure what kind of disarray the floors will be in at a given time. Picks up cat hair like crazy, I'd imagine it'd be good for a dog as well. They do firmware updates fairly ofter and it's extremely easy to update. See the videos for yourself. Available at robotshop.ca in Canada or Target, amazon, etc.. in US.
Now available at Costco.ca

Maybe should be moved to main off-topic forum? Mods move if you feel appropriate since further posts may not be tech related.

That Cat Genie really works? How long have you been using it? Seems like one of those things that is too gimmicky and ends up being more work to use than what it replaces.

I used to be skeptical of password managers, but I'm using 1Password, and I agree, a password management tool is definitely the way to go. Bonus points, in my opinion, for 1Password being developed out of Toronto by a small Canadian team.

Without a doubt, indoor plumbing makes my life. Try going without indoor plumbing in your house some time.

They found that was the best shape. Round back so it can get turned around and out of tight spots. Square front end to get closer to the wall and in the corners better. Also keeping the powerhead out front on the square end and the vacuum behind allows for better suction.

It really works! Try it out, with Costco's great return policy what have you got to lose. Cat takes a dump and if on cat activation mode 15 minutes later it starts the process of cleaning the box. We tried the littermaid POS and that is probably why we were so late adopting the Cat Genie. Kind of like "yeah sure it works, just like the littermaid did".

If you think your wife makes your life easier now, imagine how much easier life would be for you if you didn't have to listen to her bitching about vacuuming.

You're like the new age vacuum salesman. No longer do they go door to door; but rather invade online forums.

+1 for Lastpass. Except for their massive security breach a year ago, they are a great company with a great product. If any posters use the default password manager in your web browser, I recommend you switch immediately. Lastpass also had a fantastic form filler tool. I can sign up for a new account or fill in shipping information in one hotkey.

For the robo-vacuum, do you find that it does as good a job as you would do? My old roommate had a roomba and it was novel for a while, then I realised that I could do a better job in 5 minutes. I will buy one of these vacuums if you can confirm that it actually cleans as well as you could. Please say it does. I want more robots so badly.
