Default Bars/Pubs and Clubs in Calgary

Hey so I'm turning 18 soon and I'm curious about what the good bars are here and which ones to avoid at all costs, SW is preferred. I already have plans to go to Seanachie's, the Den, and the Roadhouse as I have gotten the best reviews from the Roadhouse in terms of clubs. I know we have some alcoholics and inebriation enthusiasts on here so I figure I'll get the best answers here. Thanks in advance.

PS: Any suggestions for first legal drink? I don't want it to be something plain and boring i.e. beer/wine/rum and cokes since I've had those all the time.

For the love of god avoid Vinyl. God damn that place gets crowded, holy fata. They all get busy as all hell, but at least with the Roadhouse the place is bigger than 4 square feet.

I personally like Mansion, usually got some pretty good looking girls.

First drink? Have a beer, be a man for gods sake. I went ##### and had a Singapore Sling (ahaha, shame!).

If I remember correctly I had my first "legal" beer in my bed at like 12 something, just after I turned 18, haha..I only had one at that point.

Later that day I went to lunch with my Mom, Nana and Papa, had my first legal beer there.

Ended up pre-drinking a little bit at my house, got a ride to my friends, pre-drank there and went to they Back Alley.

Back in the day it went the Den ($5 pitchers), the Fox (nickel drinks), the Maid (snatch), Back Alley (booze + snatch)...followed by a horrendous hangover.

You're 18, go to all the bars, try them for yourself.

Double rye and Ginger, two of them.

Too bad you missed the years of 1st Street SW:

-The Taz
-Crazy Horse
-Bourbon Street
-Night Gallery (the best)

I'd put a vote in for hitting up Ming to start an evening (have some pricey martinis and order the ginger beef) and then head over to the Ship & Anchor and get attacked by cougars. Cap it off with drunkenly eating a Thai Thai sub (RIP Wicked Wedge on 17th).

Everyone should have a shot called a "Prairie Fire" when they turn 18....and then never have another one of those ever again....

my favorite was the Rocky Mountain Bear F%#ker, they don't seem to make it right here.... Jack Daniels, Southern Comfort and tokillya all in one shot.

When I was 18 it was a pretty easy choice where to go... bar hopping down Electric Ave

Oh man, such a broad question.

Really, you have to figure out what you like, I for one prefer pubs, I like being able to talk to my friends while we watch the game.

If you want to go ot clubs or be a bar star then you have to figure that out, lots of people love that sort of stuff.

Ahh yes, that one would curl your toenails as well, lol. the only shot I was ever given that I absolutely refused, and I'm not even sure it has a name, was a shot of Tequilla with a pickled egg on top...disgusting!

The idea was to pop the egg in your mouth, chew it and then take the shot and swallow both at the same time??? wtf?

Locke's right tho, where you go all just depends what you like. I also prefer pubs over bars.

I think what Calgary is truly missing is the original Cowboys (on 9th). Yes, it was full of roidbags and barbie dolls, but I had some damn good times at that bar.

My favourite now is the Drum and Monkey / Bamboo. Guys can sit and drink all night at the Drum, girls can dance all night at Bamboo. The pizza place beside it is incredible. Great times, relatively low ###### factor.

fixed.

Anyone who voluntarilly takes a prairie fire has issues. It works best when your friend has already had 8-10 drinks and can no longer smell the tobasco before they take the shot.

For some reason those were my go-to at the bar from 21 to about 25, weirdly developed a taste for them. To the point where if we were all doing tequila shots, I'd request for mine to be a prairiefire. Thankfully that evil's in my past now..
