Thumbs up Kelowna Colts Win Div 5 Men's Hockey

hey cp

WE DID IT!!!!!! my men’s hockey team - the kelowna colts - WON div 5!!!!!

we beat the wolfpack 4-2 earlier tonight. they were the #1 team in our division, we were #2.

the game started with a bit of controversy…

the normal goalie for the wolfpack came down with a mysterious ‘injury’ so he couldn’t play goal… but he seemed fine to play out (yea - ok - whatever).
so they have a guy on their roster who also plays in div 3. one of the rules in our league is you can play goal in one division and out in a different division (we actually have a guy on my team that is a div 1 goalie, but plays out with us in div 5)
so - the wolfpack dress this guy as their goalie BUT he is a div 3 goalie (he would usually play out for the wolfpack in div 5…. not goal) - so essentially he is an illegal player

we had 3 options….
1 - we could have forced the wolfpack to dress a different player as the goalie
2 - force them to forfeit (and we would have automatically won div 5 becuz of the illegal goalie)
3 - we could take our chances and play the game, but if we lose then too bad.

we opted to play - we didn’t want to win the division by forfeit - that’s just lame, and making them throw some guy in goal that’s never played that position is a pretty low thing to do.

it was a really tight game - very back and forth

I couldn’t do much on the first goal they scored. their best player cut across hard from my right to my left. I come across to my left and stop the puck but we get tangled up. by the time we stopped sliding I was no ware near my crease, never mind the net! I guess during the power-slide he was able to get the puck back and just shot it back to the slot where one of his guys buried it.

the second goal I should have played different - a guy got in alone and I should have just stayed square, got big and stayed in my butterfly - instead I tried a combo poke-check/stop-drop and flop which ended with him sliding the puck under my left arm

I can’t really comment on the 4 we scored ‘cuz I was so far away, except that I almost bailed a couple of times…. it’s hard to jump and cheer in full goalie gear! ha! ha!

I got lucky late in the game - one of their guys got a clear breakaway… this time I stayed square to him and opted for a butterfly style save. he wired the puck just wide of my blocker and thankfully it missed the goal post and ended up harmlessly behind the net!

I don’t think I’ve been this exhausted ever after a game. I don’t think my heart rate got below about 130 for the entire game!!!! seriously. when the play was at the other end I tried to control my breathing as best I could just to get my heart rate down to around 90… so the thumping in my forehead would stop… a least for a couple minutes! ha! ha!!

I’m so pumped!!

so now we play the div 4 champions on thursday night…. I have a feeling we’re going to get absolutely slaughtered, but whatever - I’m ok with that - it's a free game of hockey!

if we do pull out the miracle upset, we’ll be playing in the bc provincials on the may long weekend

anyways…. just thought I’d pass on the good news!

cheers

chris

**** i'll fire up some more pics tomorrow of the trophy, game puck, etc.

I'm going to apologize in advance for sounding like a complete prick here...

But...

Could you imagine in every CP member posted a new thread when their rec sports team won a tournament?

Then we'd have a more positive atmosphere? Yeah you're right. That's totally against what CP is about.

Congrats on the win btw!

I imagined it and in every single outcome the world did not end.

Congrats Chris!

Way to go man!

Clearly you think people on CP are far better at sports than is probably true....

Actually, with the way most leagues are set up, winning rec championships isn't all that common...and yes you do come off as a complete jerk, so shut it.

Congrats Chris! One day the Puckers will win a championship.

Congrats on winning!

Also, they won their season championship, not a tournament. Geez, what an overall stupid post.

hey cp

thanks for the kind words

i'll cut HotHotHeat some slack.... the dude's got one of the coolest avatars ever in my books! MacGyver in a flames lid is sooooooo solid... i actually remember watching the episodes when he wore that!! ha! ha!

ok... onto more pics......

i made up a bunch of championship caps - so i'm really glad we won - it would have sucked to give them to the other team. the trophy on the left is the 'keeper' trophy and the big one on the right is the one that gets engraved and was supposed to stay at the rink last night! shhhhhhhhhh....

my goalie mask has never looked so good!!!

a bunch of my gear with the hardware and the game puck....

these are the caps i made up....

and just for good measure i laser etched the championship game puck!

if anyone has experience with staging trophies/jerseys/etc. for cool pics i'd love to know what to do to make these better. i'll see the guy who runs my league on thursday.... so i have the big trophy until then!

cheers

^ and thats why it's perfectly acceptable for a thread to be about his team, If anyone put that much effort into their rec league I'd hope they would be proud and post about it. Approved.

Can you engrave a CP Puckers game puck?

"Crappiest team in Div. 5"

With a subhead of:

"No playoffs for you!!"

Congrats!!! Hats and jerseys are awesome!

Or a Saints...worst team in Div 4 puck?
