$3 million is below the average MLB salary iirc. Cecil signed for more than twice that much.

Barring trades and/or training camp surprises that's probably pretty much what we've got for 2017. After Stroman, Sanchez, Pillar, Travis, Osuna and Biagini sign payroll will likely be just shy of $160 million.
Depth SP - Bolsinger, Harrell, Floyd, Oberholtzer
Depth RP - Tepera, Schultz, Dermody, Smith
Depth OF - Pompey, Ceciliani, Ramirez
Depth IF - Goins, Gurriel, Urena
Depth 1B - Tellez, Graterol
Depth BC - Ohlman

I think Floyd grabs that last BP spot over Barnes. I'm still hopeful that we can get a another OF option rather then Carrera.

I think he's primarily a catcher, but also listed as a 1B. Ohlman is in the same boat.
A lot of catchers now with Martin, Jiminez, Saltalamacchia, Ohlman, Graterol all projected to be at the MLB and AAA levels.

2017 budget is 165M so they have a little wiggle room at the deadline. Looks like that whole Ed Rogers is a fan of the team and allowed the Jays to break budget to bring back Bautista was BS though. Seems like a hard budget. You should be able to win at 165 though. Other teams do more with much less.

Still a pretty decent team. Stating the obvious, but the starting pitchers will be key. If they can stay relatively healthy and perform ok they'll be in good shape. Injuries and/or down years......good luck.

Jays really need Travis to stay healthy so they can have a proper
Leadoff man.

I agree, plus there is a chance for a couple bats to rebound from last season. A healthy Pillar should be improved, you have to think Bautista if he can stay healthy will be better and overall if we can reduce the strikeouts I think we will be a much better offensive team.

I really hope Pearce is getting the majority of the starts at 1st because a 7-8-9 of Smoak-Upton/Carrera-Pillar is bad.
Oh and 11 days until Pitchers and Catchers report!!!
Time really does fly.
I can't wait to see what Aaron Sanchez can do over a full season.

The bullpen doesn't look half bad now and they didn't have to spend a fortune to get it there. Now I guess we wait and see how it actually performs on the field.

My concern with the Jays' bullpen is who will be the backup in the event Osuna struggles? We seen some shaky stretches with the guy and if teams have figured a thing or two out about his pitches, I think we may see more this year of the same. Last year there were a couple guys in mind to use if he didn't fare well. Who are those guys this year?
As for Smith, I don't know much about him, but it's always good to have a player or two who has an unconventional delivery, in this case a side arm thrower, just to mess with batters routines. I suspect that at the trade deadline this upcoming season the Jays will be very very active one way or the other depending on how the team is doing.

Smith and Howell are great additions to the pen. Just shows that you can still get bullpen arms without paying them closer money

After signing Saltalamacchia they needed a boring name to even out the jersey costs. Cheap Rogers being cheap. Predictable.

Love the signing of Howell and Smith. Two veterans who know how to get it done. Bullpen numbers are volatile as one or two bad outings can change what appears to be a good season into something mediocre.
It's also good to have varying arm angles and pitch types, love sinker-baller relievers.

No Martin at WBC
@israelfehr: No Russ Martin or Michael Saunders for Canada. Martin had insurance complications and Saunders needed to be in Phillies camp per @ShiDavidi.
@Sportsnet: Russell Martin, Michael Saunders left off Canada’s World Baseball Classic roster: http://sprtsnt.ca/2kUtVM8 @ShiDavidi https://twitter.com/Sportsnet/status...187392/photo/1

From an email I got yesterday:
Outfielders Jose Bautista (Dominican Republic) and Dalton Pompey (Canada) will be joined by pitchers Marco Estrada (Mexico), J.A. Happ (USA), Roberto Osuna (Mexico) and Marcus Stroman (USA)
