Dont think there was any chance that deal was on the table or calgary would have taken it.
Historically goalie trades are always underwhelming.

I'm almost certain that's exactly what was offered and declined by the Flames as they wanted Mercer. It was reported on here multiple times.

I'm basing my assumption on the rumors that a deal was pretty close to being done on 2 separate occasions and that the 1st + Holtz were on the table.

It was definitely on the table, through rumors and wild suggestions on Flames forums. I agree with Zary's-Moustache that if the slightest suggestion that a 1st + Holtz/Mercer or another grade A, Conroy would've pulled that trigger way before the trade deadline. The hyped up speculations kind of put everything out of perspective.
The huge albatross surrounding Markstrom is his contract with 2 years remaining. I think NJD was kicking tires and basically lowballed the deal. We'll see what happens in the offseason. One of the 2 goalies will be traded to make room for Wolf going forward. I can guarantee that Markstrom's value likely won't be going down this offseason to the trade deadline in 2025 if a team is good defensively and is missing that one component to be a true Cup contender. Even a first rounder for Markstrom would be OK TBH.

Yeah but I bet it was for 50% retained, that's a ton of dollars.

Wouldn't say yes immediately but if nothing better came I'd be calling fitz on trade day morning and saying send in the paperwork. It's still a 1st and a 2nd for a goalie.

IMO there is no way 1st + Holtz was offered.

Don't forget that it's set the franchise back 20 years as well. In time we'll find out a time machine back to March of 2021 was also part of the Devils package and that would be worth the t0% retention for sure.

The reporting is mixed. One said the Flames were holding out for "a better pick". Better than a first?
I still think the offers were fluid depending on retention. But I also think Mercer was never offered and the Flames wanted Mercer. After taking Sharangovich and Kuzmenko, Conroy has been focused on centres and D-men.
I still think being offered Holz is like being offered Dube (minus the criminal charges of course). Their careers have been similar.

Of course, who really knows off the top of their head how big a 46oz popcorn is… so we go to redeem the popcorn and the lady goes and gets a small bag, fills it a little less than halfway and says this is about the 46oz size (they didn’t seem to have any smaller size present to put it in anyway?), no butter, here ya go. Call me entitled I guess but I’m not sure it’d kill the Flames to, ya know, actually give away #### for once.
Like, thanks, I guess. Just so on brand for this Murray Edwards owned business. >$2B net worth, I made my money off provincial resources, refuse to pay taxes, but want the city to pay for my arena and obscene wealth to become obscenelier.
Taco time gift card is hilarious. Does it expire tomorrow and look like it was in one of the staff’s bedside drawer for the last 2 years?
|
We have been to a few of the scratch days and have picked up a few things like the popcorn, pop, and cheese burgers. Although the one thing I did learn is the small popcorn can only be redeemed on the main concourse, at least that was the case early on.
Yeah, 2 x $50 Tacotime gift cards. I don't know what that would do to my bowels. They don't expire, but is it really a win if you have to use them. I think I might see if my co-workers want to go for tacos, my treat.
