No in this recent Banff case they acted like idiots. Just figured since it will be legal soon its cool to set up shop and start selling, without knowing what regulations ,restrictions and licensing will be.
They deserve the record they got and I'm someone that is fully behind legalization.
Now arresting people for possession on the street, yes there should be a moratorium right now. Retail store front selling, no.

Yeah, it's pretty much like a couple guys deciding to set up a storefront and sell everclear and home-brewed beer out of it.

Ceci gonna make sure weed isnt to inexpensive in Alberta
Quote:
“Without a provincial sales tax, we need to ensure that we receive adequate monies to address the costs of having cannabis available for distribution and sale in our province, whether that’s on the health side or the enforcement side or the education side,” he said.
“So we’re going to look at how to make it happen.”
As well, some sort of provincial tax is needed on legalized cannabis to ensure it is is not significantly cheaper in Alberta than in other jurisdictions, said Ceci.

Honestly my preference for the tax would be enough to cover the increased expenses we may see as a result of legalization (police, medical etc.) and ideally a little more which could be used to offset and lower the tax on alcohol somewhat. Yet low enough that it doesn't encourage the illegal black market sale of pot too much.

lol. Sorry Lubicon, but the NDP doesn't do "offset and lower" when it comes to taxes. You're certainly not going to get cheaper booze out of the deal.

No kidding. Good idea. Let's tax it so it's more expensive than the black market. That will show them!

I wonder if we'll be able to get sampler packs in the liquor stores.
If you buy this 26er of Jack you get a free mini bong, and this extra fine ounce of grass to try out.

Free bong with purchase of an Oz. Probably get ####ty cheap pipes with every purchase. Sampler packs would be cool.

No doubt, but it's still nice to wish. And that's what I put forward in the survey, but I have about zero hope that it will ever happen. Taxes seem to be a one way street - always up, never down.

Well at my local dispensary you get a free joint of your choice(indica or sativa) for every $50 spent. I've also been given a free glass pipe at another local dispensary.
So yes there probably will be some freebies I'm sure.

Hey mister, I left my ID at home, but my dad sent me to buy him some weed, can you buy it for me and I'll pay for it?
Line I used when I was 15 to buy beer.

The NDP have announced that the legal age to smoke pot in Alberta will be 18, and that sales be handled through dedicated stores that cannot sell alcohol or pharmecuticals. Which will take Shoppers Drug Mart and the like out of things.
Stupidly, they are also considering government-run stores. But at least that is open to consultation.

That seems to be how it's being handled in Colorado and Washington from what I remember (minus the government stores), so not a big surprise.
