Aviation Appreciation Station
Down at the Stampede grounds yesterday I wandered into the Agrium tent. Inside the aerospace museum had a cropduster set up on display, next to it was a sandwich billboard that said:
"See the Lancaster, August 4th to 8th, SAIT Aerocentre"
Now the aviation geek in me went absolutely nuts upon seeing this. Since there are no Lancasters airside at YYC (the aerospace museum has one on static display) that means that one of the two airworthy ones in the world will be flying in for this!
Preliminary checks with some of my sources say to keep an eye out for it arriving on Tuesday, August 3rd around 3pm.
I will update this thread as I hear more details on this awesome visit!

When you fly out of hamilton, your check in ticket gets you free admission to the war aeroplane museum at the airport.
I'd encourage anyone that can to go through the museum, its probably the most complete and awesome display of Airforce history that I've seen.

Does the Nanton Lancaster ever leave its museum property? I checked that placed out for the first time last summer and was absolutely blown away with the quality of that museum.
I have plans and wood to assemble a 6 foot wingspan R/C Lancaster..hoping to get started on construction this winter season perhaps.

The Nanton Lanc is not airworthy, but I do believe over the last few years they have repaired the engines enough to run them sometimes for visitors.

Yeah...I was just speculating that maybe they were trucking it in or something as a static exhibit, before I saw the post above about the airworthy one making a tour.
The Nanton Lancaster does do engine run-ups, although I’ve never been there to see it.

This is one of my favorite photos of a Lancaster, shot at night from the ground in Germany. Gives you a real perspective on the risks the pilots took, as well as the fact that they weren’t all that high up

My uncle Alfred was a Lanc navigator who got shot down over Denmark during a night run.

Awesome, I'll be there for sure. Hope it doesn't come when I'm working, I'd like to see it flying more than on the ground.

Its a shame my grandfather died in May. He flew in these during the war and it would have been cool to take him down to see it.

If you can narrow down the time, and figure out the best filming location, I will get some good HD video to put up.

I'm not really an aviation geek, but I have to admit there is NOTHING like the sound of the Merlins in a Lanc!

My grandfather's brother got shot down in a lancaster over the English Channel during WW2, I would be fascinated to see this plane up close.
