And because well they are the Cubs and no one likes the Bo-Sox.

"God bless America" or "Third time's a charm". One of the best comedic bad guys in cinema history (though Ernie McCracken holds that belt with me). Actually realizing i should've went as alternate 1985 Biff Tannen for Halloween, that would've ruled.

The Red Sox are probably more popular than the Cubs, which is really saying something:

It's just always been a little gear grinder for me. I don't hear the players on the Penguins going around saying World Champions or Leicester City winning the EPL and shouting World Champs. That's what the World Cup is for and the Olympics/World Cup in hockey.
It's an American thing for sure as it's said in the NFL and NBA as well. It's not something that keeps me up at night. Just find it somewhat amusing anytime I watch a championship celebration in MLB/NFL/NBA.

The Cubs record this year was 103-58-1 (Winning PCT 640) They were the class of the league and of the World, I challenge you to find a team in any of the other Major Baseball Leagues around the World that would even win a game against the Cubs.
Let's not also forget that the Cubs also had 5 Starters in the All-Star game(first time since 1985) which included their entire infield(First time since 1963 Cardinals). All of this when just 5 short years ago the Cubs lost 101 games.

A lot of those Red Sox fans didn't exist before 2004 either.
I personally had two people tell me "long suffering" stories after they had won regarding fandom for a team they had never talked about previously.
Hopefully Cubs fans don't become unbearable now too.

As someone raised a Sox fan, I can guarantee that we'll hear those same "long suffering" stories from new Cubs fans

Given how good the Cubs are positioned as a team, I also expect they'll quickly become one of the most hated teams in the league. Success does that.

From business travel in the midwest the Cubs always have been really popular as well. It's not just Chicago. No love for White Sox, Twins, Brewers from my travels. Lovable Losers fit the bill perfectly until last night.

I'm sure someone mentioned this already but in the 70s, 80s, and most of the 90s WGN was a superstation and broadcast almost like network TV in the states IIRC. A generation of Cubs fans were created by default since you could always watch a Cubs game. They were everywhere I'm told.

Also explains why the Braves are the second most popular team after the Yankees. TBS and WGN made the Braves and Cubs national teams.

Or is it the posh and wealthier folk are Cubs supporters? Similar with the Rangers and Islanders, or Giants and Jets. Even the Lakers and Clippers.
A list Celebrities want to be seen at a Lakers game. D listers begrudge the fact that they have to go to a Clippers game regardless of how the team is playing.

Yeah but in Chicago that typically meant white. Cubs represent the north side, sox are southside.

The clock continues now on the Arizona Cardinals. They now have the longest streak without winning a championship out of the 4 pro sports leagues. The Cleveland Indians move into the #2 spot.
