I think you misunderstood my first point, or I didn't explain it right

I wasn't talking about money for any other year but this year, they had a better chance of making the Europa final than they did of making the QF of the CL

thats why I was saying the money wasn't any different this year

of coarse they will take a big hit if they don't finish 4th

I was just talking about this year

What time is the game in Calgary? I might swing by, I'm at work on Sunday but I might be able to get over there.

Liverpool looked like the Flames when they are trailing by one with a few minutes left - they barely mustered up any offence. The one chance they had boffed off Torres' foot.

That, was an excellent match. Arguably the best of the season, just the movement and the control was incredible.

Well done Reds!

So they take on Benfica today in the Europaleague, I'm hoping they win this stupid thing, if for nothing else to get them back on a roll.

I know no one gives a flying fata about the Europa League, but they've been playing well and wins help re-instate the culture of winning.

Also, just a question, maybe someone knows better than I, but, doesnt the Winner of the Europa (UEFA) cup get an automatic berth in the Champions League next season? Ie, if the Reds cant nab 4th in the EPL but with the Europa League they could still get CL football next year?

This is un-fataing-believable. Brutal. Liverpool are going to lose on not one but TWO penalties?

Goddamn Portuguese divers! That first one was a pure and blatant dive, and the second penalty was an outragously marginal call to award a penalty for.

Unreal.

Until a few years ago even the winner of the Champions League was not guaranteed an automatic berth in the competition. The situation that Liverpool caused in '05 when they won the CL but finished fifth forced UEFA to clarify its rules and ensure that if the title holder failed to qualify through league position they would still be able to defend their title. So to answer your question, no.

That was a good game, didnt get to watch as much as I wanted, but a Torres brace, I'll take it! Once again Kuyt shows his quality.

Maybe he can lure over Robben....

I have to agree. Kuyt is a real heart and soul type player. I love how he gets in the keepers face at a corner. It really throws them off their game. Lucas was good too.

I suggested to you the other day that the Europa is a Mickey Mouse cup. And it is really, but I do obviously hope they win it, if only for the reasons Locke mentioned. The club needs to get a winning attitude back.

Great performance today.

Years ago when it was still the UEFA Cup, it was a very difficult tournament to win. There were only around 16 teams - all league winners - in the Champions League and as a result many very good teams that finished 2nd in the league entered UEFA. Funnily enough the CL was a bit of a joke as you traditionally had a few powerhouses and a bunch of lightweights from less 'impressive' leagues fighting it out. Now it seems that all the half decent teams are in the CL regardless of being a league winner or not.

Too bad - European trophies used to be high priority. Now people only care about the CL.

If anyone hasn't watched the game, or seen the score, tape delayed on TV at 3pm, come on down to the pub!
