Of course the dream is to win the Cup and have Gio hand it to Jarome. But even just one playoff round with Iggy getting limited minutes would be a nice gesture from the club and a fitting send off for a legend of the game. It would do no harm to the club to trade for him. Of this I am sure.
|
But is he struggling because he's on a bad team or because he's one of the bad players on the bad team?
The top Avs players are not dragging Iggy down with them - he doesn't even merit playing with them apparently.

But his contribution is impossible to quantify. Ticket sales would go up if the Flames won a round or two. Independent of whether Iggy is on the team.

Bringing back an iconic captain (that really didn't lead in his final years) would cause a lot of friction in that dressing room.
Give him a one day contract at the end of the year, and retire as a Flame.

Where's 'This Post is Terrible' when you need him...
15 points in 18 playoff games with Pittsburgh.
30 goals with Boston.
29 and 22 goal seasons his first two years in Colorado.
He's a 39 year old playing on a team who was basically mathematically eliminated in November.
Done before he left Calgary indeed.

And in both of those years, -19 & -22 respectively.
His defensive game is weak, and you don't need +/- do show that,
just watch a game and not stare at stats all day.

I have visions of a Lanny McDonald type ending....sadly, those are almost assuredly just visions or dreams...still I don;t see the harm if the Flames can send a pick and Wideman to even out the salary.

Lanny only played about two of every three games his last year (at 35) and less in the POs. He was the bottom point getting forward except for Hunter. He just wasn't very good. I kinda felt bad for Pepper that he got sat for that final game, after playing gritty hockey the whole season and being much more of a contributor.

So half the posters are insane? Again, how is this constructive in the slightest? Why is it so hard to believe that as the team and the player, they could help each other. Everyone knew he was going to come back to finish his career here. I believe we're in the latter stages of the rebuild. As a support/depth player with a cannon of a shot, as well as mentorship, he's our very own Ryan Smyth.

Pure nonsense.

... it was a joke. You know, for fun. Do I need to explain humour and fun to you, or must everything be "constructive".
This is a polarized thread that has run it's course, you aren't going to get "constructive" posts at this point.

A gif is humorous, but expecting me to extract humour out of 2% communication in text alone is pure folly. It came across more as insulting, and sarcastic.
But why shouldn't it be constructive? There's no need for calling people names or calling each other out. We might be strong willed, but all opinions are valid. Let us discuss them accordingly.

I remember it well. I would be fine with getting Iginla for the 4th line, or depth..imagine him scoring in the Cup-winning game and having him retire afterwards. It would be magical!

They usually are... but just think how epic it would be if it happened.
I'm a pretty data driven guy and as I said I would only want it to happen if everybody understood the score (He's being acquired as depth, pay and play as such) but damnit if I don't want Iggy's to retire as a Flame, Damnit if I don't want for his last game to have a Flaming C on his chest, Damnit if I don't want my daughter who wasn't yet born the last time he pulled on the sweater to think his name is JARO MAGINLA! because of how Beasley says his name when he scores, Damnit if I don't want just one last ride.

Well that good news is, going forward, I have zero such expectations of you.
I'm done at this point though. Off topic enough as it is.

I don't think I've ever seen 600 people come to such a close decision.
I remain in favour. The Flames can use some forward depth, and Iginla is the grittiest forward left that isn't a total black hole offensively.
