One of the most underwhelming Flames of all times. Such a large frame but soft player. Sure he had some skill, but he was just too inconsistent.
If he can actually become a determined player, he could develop into something solid, but at this point, hes an underachiever in my books.
Just another passenger who wasnt gone soon enough.

Wasn't a fan of his at all. Too soft and way to light on his feet.
Good guy, but not a winner at all.

That's my point. It must not have been his end of year play that made them decide to move on from him.

Smart move by BT, Colborne just doesn't have it. Very much prefer Brouwer over Colborne any day.

Wish him well. Too bad the flames didn't show some foresight and at least get a pick for him.

The fact that they did not get a pick back for him?
Pretty cut and dry. He left via free agency...

Yeah I kind of thought he was the one player on the team who had some trade value, that they actually would be willing to part with. Not counting expiring contracts. Really quite surprised it ended this way.

Can't say I will miss his presence on the ice at all. Some good upgrades by Tree for the upcoming season. This one is addition by subtraction.

Inconsistent, but he will be missed. Good luck in Colorado, Joe.

I like Colborne, and he seems like a great guy.
But I always felt like he was a bit of a square peg as far as the lineup goes. There just never seemed to be a place for him.
He is a good hockey player , and $2.5M is a good price for him.
But there is nowhere in our lineup for him.

I get needing some right shots and a upgrade like Brouwer, but to me this is still a gaffe.
Colborne still has some upside and for all his shortcomings has shown more than any LW not named Gaudreau.
If Treliving didn't see a fit they should have traded him.
Or for 2.5m there are 3 or 4 flames forwards I'd prefer colborne ahead of. He might score more than bouma, bollig, and ferland combined.

I predict Joe will continue to improve in Colorado and I am not convinced he will never wear a Flames jersey again.

Apparently he wasn't willing to sign here for 2.5

Is this what you mean?

where Joe was with us contractually with us was different than what he ended up signing

My guess is that was in negotiations leading up to Colborne filing for arbitration, and subsequently not being qualified.
I would be happy to be wrong.

Liked the person, disliked the player.
Thought he was a bit lazy, was never going to put the pieces fully together and learn to utilize that frame of his and I suspect he was already as good as he was ever going to be on the Flames team. Top that off with the fact that we have a logjam of centers, I'm quite happy we decided to walk away since money was obviously not the issue.
