Our “core” on the man advantage, with Kuzmenko and without.
PP GF/60
Without (Beginning of season-Feb 1)
Huberdeau - 4.73 - 302nd
Sharangovich - 4.6 - 308th
Kadri - 4.94 - 294th
Weegar - 5.71 - 241st
With (Feb 2 - end of season):
Kuzmenko - 16.32 - 6th in NHL
Huberdeau - 14.19 - 7th in NHL
Kadri - 13.44 - 8th
Sharangovich - 13.27 - 9th
Weegar - 12.77 - 14th
Expected PP GF/60:
Kuzmenko: 11.34
Huberdeau: 10.44
Kadri: 10.27
Sharangovich: 10.58
Weegar: 9.18.
I can’t argue it’s ALL Kuzmenko, but it seems quite clear he’s the catalyst.

Yes it was a snapshot from the time of the trade. Funny how he chose to share that card and not this one (both from Jan. 31 prior to his play with Calgary).

Nobody on the Flames. Fawns over the Oilers though.
There’s nothing worse than a closet Oilers fan pretending to be a Flames fan on CP. They’re so pathetic.

That makes no sense at all, considering he went to a team with better opportunity and scored at an insane rate. He wasn’t getting over 5.5m if he stayed in Vancouver, if he continues to score the way he did he could be looking at a 7m deal for 4-5 years from someone. An odd thing to say.

Blaster86 is a Canucks fan. I am pretty sure it is illegal for him to not roast the Flames when the opportunity arises.

Alexei Kovalev.
Never one known for his defense, Kovalev still played 1316 games over 19 seasons, finishing with 1029 points and a career PPG of 0.781. Kovalev scored 100+ goals for three different teams (New York, Pittsburgh, Montreal).
With 120 points in 153 games, Kuzmenko’s career PPG sits at 0.784.
I wouldn’t trade Alex Kovalev if I didn’t have to.

Good point. Speed is helpful in a lot of situations, but it is just one tool a player can have. It's more about how those tools add up and you can take speed out of the equation, and the sum of everything else still makes an effective player.
People like to focus on speed because it's flashy and stands out, and you obviously need some fast skaters on the team, but not every player needs to be. It's like when a defenseman has a howitzer of a slap shot. It's a nice tool to have and stands out in the highlights, but it isn't necessarily better than a defenseman who can thread a nice wrister through traffic and get it on or close to the net.

I always think of Matt Lombardi, the skating and speed of a superstar and very little else to round out his game. Had a couple decent years, but not a particularly long career.

He may have been a mid hockey player, but the legend of Matthew Lombardi’s handsomeness persists to this day among lady Flame fans.
Lord, the trail of bodies that must be in that man’s wake.

The length of career was more to do with concussions

Yes, but even at his peak, Lombo was a 50 point centre, and despite several extended auditions, he couldn’t stick with prime Iggy.
His skating could’ve made him a perennial All Star - just didn’t have the hands/vision.

There are a lot of speedsters that don't have the hands to actually stickhandle or shoot well when going at top speed. The ones that do are the ones that also tend to get drafted in the top 3 or 5 of a draft.
A lot of them also don't have the hockey sense to know when to slow things down. It's just full speed all the time leading to a lot of north-south play. Kuzmenko might never be the first one to gain the zone, but having a player who can be methodical when he gets there, isn't a bad thing.

I think of the Oilers taking best skater in the draft Steve Kelly over local guys Shane Doan and Jarome Iginla because they couldn't play Oilers hockey.
