Even if Iggy is near the top of goal scoring, his commitment to defence is less than stellar. I'm not sure if he's lost a step either but the coaches are looking for two way players with speed on the big ice. Iggy doesn't qualify unless he regains his 50 goal scoring pace, than they may make some allowances.

I just drove past COP. Some guy was standing outside the entrance with what looked like 20 jerseys. Team Canada, Canucks, Penguins, Kings. It was a bit ridiculous. I can only assume that those will be going up on ebay later today once they are signed.

Ralph Kruger added to coaching staff according to the presser.
Patronage and guilt appointment from the Hockey Canada coat-tail rider Lowe.

According to Yzerman Krueger is Canadas large ice specialist. Did someone tell Lowe before he hired him as the NHL coach of his team that they play on the small ice? Krueger is the only large ice specialist in this country? Give me a break.
Really going to the wall for that guy for some reason...the mickey mouse way he was told he was safe the two week later, fired, has everything to do with that. The funny thing is they said that Babcock talked to him around the draft in NYC so he was back in North America for that.

^ how many Canadians on the above list would you consider for TC?
Carter maybe? I think iggy would need to come out with guns blazin to merit a lot of serious consideration.

I don't believe at present that Iggy should be on TC roster, but I think he should be closer to consideration. I'm just saying after years of over-appreciating his accomplishments, many here are now undervaluing him.
There's still only 10-12 RW I would take over him NEXT season (obviously not if thinking beyond that). Not a totally comprehensive list, but:
Kane
Perry
St Louis
Voracek
Eberle (borderline...maybe still a tier below)
----
Kessel
Neal
Hossa
Gaborik
----
Sharp
Brown
Iginla
Franzen
Semin
Eriksson
Wheeler
Horton
Stewart
Jagr
Ryder
Clarkson
Parenteau
----
Purcell
Doan
Selanne
Alfredsson
Havlat
Whitney
Bold guys are Canadian, all of whom I'd put on TC ahead of Iggy at present. Of course, TC will take like 9 centremen, and there are lots of guys like Giroux/Stamkos that play C/RW.

One way to get around no on-ice insurance, play ball hockey!

With how many centreman that Canada is going have and how few right handed wingers, why did Thornton get an invite and iginla didn't? No way does Thornton have more foot speed that iginla and their skill levels are a draw if not in iginla's favour because he is less one-dimensional. I think Babcock has never really liked iginla's game and this is the result. Iginla constantly got fewer and fewer minutes and became used as a 13th forward in the 2010 Olympics... Yet with fewer minutes and constantly being moved to different lines, iginla still led the team in goals and was 3rd in points... And, oh yeah, battled with 2 guys in the corner to get the puck to Crosby in overtime for the biggest goal in Olympic history! I hope iginla lights it up for the first half of the year and makes team Canada look stupid for snubbing him.

It's not like a disagree powderjunkie on your analysis of RWers it's just that Canada has alot of centremen they can move to wing as well. But just looking at him play hockey with playoff intensity this past season showed that they're a younger, better, hungrier guys out there. The only reason you'd take Iginla is for the "intangibles" which is not a reason to take him.

Skill level is not a draw or in Iginla's favor here. Thornton has a far superior skill level to iginla at this point, sorry. If Iginla makes this team, it's based off of leadership and intangibles.

love iggy, but no way he can be on this team. on the larger ice, speed is key, and there are better options out there for canadian sniper specialists that can play the wing.

This was not the biggest goal in Olympic history. If anything, it was Sakic's game winner (which was also assisted by Iginla), or maybe his insurance goal in 2002 that broke the 50-year Canada gold medal drought. The 2010 victory gets way more exposure for being more recent, having taken place on Canadian soil, and featuring wunderkind Sidney Crosby, but the 2002 tournament was WAY more entertaining, and more significant for Canadian hockey history.

Anyone thinking ball hockey isn't worth covering doesn't remember D2 and how pivotal that scene was

I will never forget that play/goal ... that and 2004 were my 2 fondest memories of hockey.

Iginla's skating is not good enough for the large ice surface. Even if he's a point per game player and averages 0.5 goals per game he's not going. Babcock says they are looking for good skaters. Iginla obviously doesn't fit that description.
