Mostly I hope he does really well and plays a contributing role this season or next.

But every terrible "foo" joke/pun (which is all of them, so far) kills a very small part of me.

If it's me, I give Foo a chance. Great college players have come directly into the league and had an impact before.
I don't see how these are mutually exclusive. I think there is room for both on the roster. RW is a little weak, and I don't think Foo is a guy who patrols the dirty areas very well. As much as Chaisson gets slagged around here, he was pretty effective along the boards and probably the Flames best player to park themselves in front of the net. I'd welcome them both on the roster.

Probably got a call from Mike Comrie on how unrealistic expectations that the slobbering media puts on hometown kids. And when they all don't put out like Messier, the same media does the organizational dirty work and starts griping. The month breathing fans lap it all up and turn against the kid and they're run out of town.

So, his first game up there the booing he will get will sound like fooing.

Detroit and Edmonton may have new arenas, but you have to give Treliving credit for closing the deal:

BT: We can't guarantee you a spot in our top 9. If you want to make it here, you'll have to earn it by playing better than Troy Brouwer. We know that's a difficul--

Foo: Where do I sign?

Agreed. That played a role.

In Calgary he's still close to home, gets an opportunity to make the roster of a young, promising team, and avoid E=NG.

The Oilers drafted a RW'er in the 1st Round each of the last two seasons and traded RW'er for RW'er when they brought Strome in. This has literally nothing to do with anything but opportunity. Oilers have much more depth up front while we have more depth on the blueline.

Yay! I know nothing about the player but if the signing is making Oiler fans salty I'm all for it. Also, doesn't hurt to add to the Flames RW depth.

now we can finally break down what was the better trade for a defenseman:

Hall for Larsson and Lucic,

or

1st, and 2 seconds for Hamonic Foo and a 4th?!?

Foo signing is like recouping a 2nd round pick that is already closer to being developed. Well done more depth at the wing.
Hope he has a decent training camp.

If anything, the trade only made cracking the lineup easier... Eberle was far more entrenched than Strome will be.

The fact that Foo has been given an NHL number before training camp starts suggests he's expected to break camp with the big club.

Oh man, I just had to post this one.

Seems like he was looking for the easiest way into the NHL. Can't blame him, but he made a conscious choice to be a loser so it is what it is.
Seriously, 1 season in the playoffs and they are no longer the losers of the NHL and we get to see these comments. Funny. They all think the Flames will gift this kid a roster spot. Not a chance.

I am glad we signed him, can't go wrong with a top prospect from the NCAA, should be interesting to see how he can progress.

First off my favourite last name in a Flames jersey since Loob. Old guys remember when they used to put OOOOOOOOOOs around the bowl at the Dome when he scored goals?

Another interesting tie to the 80s actually. Oilers have the star now, and then. Flames have the balance. And Flames adding college free agents in Healey and Spencer Foo, in the 80s the Flames added Macoun and Otto, Berezan.

Great add to the prospect depth.

I'm not penciling anyone in but I think he fits into the Jankowski, Shinkaruk, Poirier, Klimchuk, Mangiapane group of guys at the top of the minor pro list up front vying for spots.

Love that it's like getting a 2nd round pick back.

Not necessarily. Corban Knight was given #10 when he signed and he started in the AHL.

Foo still has to adjust to a 82-game pro schedule. I think he starts in Stockton, gets called up early in the season, and never looks back.

Ahh fair enough. I thought the NHL numbers were reserved for guys expected to make the team.
