There is one possibility we haven't really talked about. If Ottawa doesn't win the lottery, or gets passed by one or two teams, maybe they forfeit their pick.
I hope that whenever they choose to do it, the Flames are picking after them and get to benefit the most from it.

I doubt they would pass, say, pick #9. They will gamble on a better season next season.

I agree it seems doubtful, but if they don't do it now then they will not be able to trade their 2025 or 2026 1st rounder this summer or next season without having implicitly accepted the choice to not be able to see the lottery, if I understand it correctly. In other words, if they trade one, the other one is automatically forfeited.
They have to at least be talking about that.

Ottawa will hold out on that as long as they can and hope the league changes their mind like they did with New Jersey and the Kovalchuk saga.

Unfortunately I think when it comes down to it if the Flames don't win the lottery and if Iginla is still there at 9 they are going to pick him, list be damned. There is just too much public pressure and too much possible backlash from the fan base not to. I still hope someone ahead of us reaches for him but I just don't see it. Anything is possible though.

Bob's list is usually the closest it comes on draft day to being accurate.
I am not sure what kind of models the other people use, but he uses a simple and effective method and it usually comes out correct.

That isn't to say I don't like Tij or think he is going to be a good player, I just think we should draft the BPA and if that is close you defer to your organization needs next which is C and D well before another winger.

You're not crazy, the Flames should pick who ever they think the BPA is.
If thats Iginla, I am happy, if it isn't thats okay as long as it is a player to can move the needle.

Agreed. If he is their BPA then so be it but I hope they don't pick him when they think a #1D is available because of his last name. It is also why I prefer he is gone by the time the Flames pick. It is just too much of a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation. There would be way less fanfare if he was Joe Smith.
I am also way too lazy to check but does anyone know how his stats compare to other previous top ten picks. He is one of the biggest risers and I wonder if that is being amplified by his last name more than it would normally be.

Well it's not a reach, He is right in our pick range, and on some lists higher up.
If they reached for him that would be another issue.
It just feels right now. Shaping up to be a star, Iggy's offspring to lead the rebuild, but this time done right.
