Has the NFL fined the Flacons yet for the Cousins signing and tampering?
That makes it even worse because they will lose picks for that.

A day later and it's just so hard to understand the Falcons pick. Reaching is fine if you have conviction but in their QB situation?
Congrats on creating a year long distraction for your team. Although maybe it won't be a distraction iof Penix isn't that good, which is entirely possible.

Woke up still ecstatic! I started losing hope on Rome about 2 weeks ago. Him and Williams together makes the draft a win already, despite only having 2 more picks

not sure what to think of the Fautanu pick for Pittsburgh. Like the player a lot, but they desperately need a C or RT ... Fautanu has only played LT and some LG at college. Just don't really see the fit, unless they are comfortable with Broderick Jones staying at RT (bad idea) or projecting Fautanu as a competent RT (we'll see).
liked Amarius Mims prior to the draft, but have since found out that his mother is a hamster and his father smells of elderberries.

Compare the situation Fields had to what Williams should have. It's not even close. Williams should be pretty successful immediately. With nearly all of the under 28 QB talent in the AFC, the Bears might make the Chiefs recent run look like it was a nothing burger here in the next 8 years. I'll be surprised if they don't win multiple Superbowls.

Yeah the Bears knocked it out of the park in round 1. The offense looks pretty good moving forward.
That defense though?
Likely gonna take another draft+ to get it near competitive levels.

They have some nice core pieces on defense with Sweat, Johnson, and Brisker + a pretty solid group of LBs.
Don't know if it's a top-5 D, but it'll probably be top-10 to 15. If the offense is as good as it looks on paper, they may not need it to be better than that.

A restaurant put up a sign in Carolina saying let the gm and coach make the draft pick. Tepper showed up to the restaurant lol.
Panthers are in shambles with that guy owning the team.

Not to mention Williams is a far superior player to Fields.

I think the most amazing stat in relation to Bears QB's is that they have NEVER had a guy throw for 4000 yards and 30 TD's in a season.
I was curious so i looked at GB since Favre arrived. 3 guys have done it 13 times.
Also heard yesterday, the last QB to be drafted by the Bears that made all pro?
Sid Luckman......... in 1939!

1995 Erik Kramer 3838 and 29 td.
Only 12 times has someone thrown for over 3000 yards for them. 5 of those seasons belong to Jay Cutler.
Amazing how bad they are. I don't see that changing either.

And he was drafted by Atlanta IIRC. Pretty good player though for sure.
Edit...he was actually never drafted. He was a replacement player during the NFL strike in 87.
Then came and played for the Stamps before going back to the NFL with Detroit and led them to a playoff spot before signing as a UFA in Chicago.

Why?
If Penix starts for ten years in two seasons, he’ll be the same age Cousins is now.
More teams should follow the Green Bay model of drafting a guy who is good but may need time, and then actually giving it to him.
Kirk Cousins is not a long term solution.

When he signed in Atlanta he sounded like a guy that was ready to put roots down, and play for a bit.
Why would you give someone 4 years and 180 million on to turn around and draft his successor a month later. If they cut Kirk next season that is 40 million in dead cap space.
Not only that, in those quotes the Gm is saying its ok for him to sit for 4-5 years. So you're going to waste the rookie contract having him sit, and make him a starter when he is 30?
Truly is a WTF are you doing scenario playing out in Atlanta.

I like to think this pick happened because (Falcons GM) former longtime Saint Terry Fontenot is actually a double agent destroying them from within.

Only organization in all of football to boast that stat.
If Caleb Williams is after greatness, he landed in a good spot as his name can be stamped all over Bears record books

They were a bottom 5 unit before their Coordinator got Halas Hall raided. After Eberflus took over they worked thwir way up to a top 5 unit by seasons end
Somewhere in the mid-teens seems reasonable

Don't see the two situations all that comparable. Rodgers fell to 24. At that point, the Packers had to decide if he was too good to pass up.
If the Falcons were high on Penix they should never have signed Cousins. Find a cheaper bridge QB and spend that savings elsewhere on the roster. I get why they took him at 8 and I have no problem with the pick. It's the Cousins signing...$100M guaranteed that is the issue.
