So hang that on Lucic and the mystery defense partner who was in the right spot but must have a serious neck injury since he never looked around to find where the other two Jets were on the ice.

Don't defencemen usually let a forward take over coverage rather than leave their own area? They switch off covering the carrier just like when they go behind the net. I think they do the same when the carrier is circling the offensive zone. More or less a zone defence as opposed to man to man.

Depends how they're coached. Switching coverages creates more opportunities for a miscue. I see the Flames do the same thing, Brodie in particular I notice often sticking with his man as he cycles back to the blueline, and one of the forwards covers for him until he gets a chance to rotate back. In this play, there's a clear moment where Lucic can see all four other Oilers ahead of him, and a Jet right beside him, and he chooses to skate away after the puck even as the other D is yelling at him and pointing at his guy.

When Hamilton's play inevitably drops off again, we will pick up this discussion with some 'told you so' medicine from the other side of the ledger. And round and round we'll go.

Love the thread title change and the Dougie sceptics having to eat crow. Keep up the good work CP!

That'd be like WhereRUChris O'Sullivan telling us all that the next time Backlund's play drops off he's going to give us a round of "told you so medicine".
A some point all you're telling us is that you are, for some unfathomable reason, a biased struggler when it comes to that player.

By that logic, we should sell Gaudreau and Monahan while we are at it, since they are doing well again.
Then wait until Bennett is lighting it up, and sell high on him too. Tkachuk is increasing his value, but I think we should keep him for at least another season until his value has peaked and we can sell high then.
Keep drafting and selling high when the players get better. Imagine all the draft assets we will have!

No no, you missed the point. People excused Hamilton's early season... flop. The excuse used was that it was a new coach and new system. I countered it Russell who not only had a new coach and new system but also had a new team. It didn't affect him. Upside for Hamilton is high, so long as he becomes more consistent. That remains to be seen. Calgary has seen many hot streaks with Iggy and cold starts, only to miss the playoffs year after year.

Hamilton is turning into a fantastic player. Best is yet to come. What a steal by Treliving.

I wonder if the 10 seasons, 6 coaches, 5 different teams, and 6 extra years old had like... ANYTHING to do with Russell being more adaptable to a coaching change than Hamilton.
It's almost like they're in two totally different stages of their career and development or something. I don't know, maybe that's crazy.
