Yup, I believe he was actually the highest paid athlete in the world for a couple years during his dominant years.

The poster lives in Austria. In this situation I'd take his opinion over yours any day.
and that the media has become disgusting, isn't news for any country.

Apparently, his condition has improved.
Quote:
They said that following the operation there were "some signs" that Schumacher's condition is "more under control now". While they could not say he was out of danger they had "gained a bit more time in the evolution" of his condition, doctors said

Doctors fear Michael Schumacher may remain in vegetative state for rest of life
Michael Schumacher has been in a medically induced coma since hitting his head while skiing on December 29, and his condition is not improving. Reports from Mirror in the UK have doctors saying that each day in the coma puts Schumacher in danger of never emerging from it. However, they have no intention of bringing Schumacher out of the coma because they fear he could have a brain hemorrhage. The medically induced coma is meant to decrease his brain's need for oxygen so that it is under less stress for recovery.

They said that medically induced comas beyond eight days are dangerous because there is the possibility of permanent brain damage.

Now that's irony man. Make a fortune in an incredibly dangerous profession, vegetative state because of a skiing accident while wearing a helmet.

^Yeah, I don't understand why they couldn't just put that message on without the hashtag. What's the point? On that note, wtf is a hashtag anyway? Just a twitter thing?

Unfortunately, one of the drawbacks of hashtag comments is that you can't read them while in a coma.

F1 racing is actually relatively safe these days. Skiing off trail is probably much more dangerous given all you have is a helmet, as opposed to a carbon fibre crash cage with the most high tech safety available. It's not really irony at all.

These days sure, but Shummy was also still doing it back when there'd still be a fatality every few years. Most people, myself one of the, are pretty amazed that if any sport was going to injure him this badly, it wasn't racing.

I bet the death rate in F1 in Schumacher's time is magnitudes higher than skiing. Hence ironic.

Nope. It would be ironic if he'd quit racing and chose skiing because he wanted to pursue something safer (i.e. the actual outcome was the opposite of what was intended), but simply dying/being seriously injured in another pastime that just happens to be generally thought of as less dangerous doesn't qualify

Not ironic, more an unfortunate coincidence, but the rest of what nik- is saying is correct. Certainly interesting that he does something so dangerous so often and gets injured this badly doing a much safer activity. Why would you look at his post and ignore the relevant bits and instead turn it into an English debate?

There were two drivers killed during his career, and they were on the same weekend twenty years ago (RIP Senna). F1 has become remarkably safer over the years.
I'm not going to join the irony debate though because that's too pedantic even for me.
