So I said that and you knew exactly who I'm talking about, despite the fact that she's not actually fat at all. They make her look bigger on the show. Why? I don't know. Probably to meet the cliche.

Has anyone watched the last season of Discovery? If the members of this thread haven’t, I can’t imagine ANYONE has.

I gave Discovery 3 honest tries and I just couldnt get into it.
Its like they thought swinging for the fences was their only choice so they had to have a magic propulsion drive on a ship Captained by Jesus with Klingons being turned into humans and....it just got progressively dumber and dumber.
There are so many things wrong with it but ultimately? Its just not Star Trek.
Its just not Star Trek in anything but name and tangential relation.

For me the breaking point in season 3 was characters I found so tedious and immersion breaking that I was fast forwarding every scene they were in. At a certain point, it was just wasting time.
I figure the same thing would happen with season 4, so why bother. I would have done the same with Picard Season 3, but someone mentioned it had changed course to become something like a TNG episode, so I gave it a shot. It wasn't great, but it wasn't actively scarring.

Yeah, that's where I sit as well. I struggle to think of 10 scenes (let alone episodes) where it feels like Trek.

I watched it, and then they went to the future and i lost it when they're having this meeting with future admiral Oded Fehr, and Jesus is just jumping in and telling everyone what to do, and they're listening to her, and it was mind-boggling. She wasn't even the captain.
Oh, and Tilly being in charge of anything makes no sense.

I watched a bit of them turning a Klingon into a human...for 'reasons?'
And that was pretty much 'Last Chance Saloon' right there so I just stopped.

ALL ABOARD!

I'm taking one for the team and still watching. Granted, it's just playing while I do work so I'm only half paying attention. It has ok moments but continues to have the same problems of the previous seasons.

I've tried this season, I'm about 2 episodes behind, but I agree with KTrain. I think that the writers are trying to address the issues of the previous season. But it just falls flat.
Its great that Michael knows all this stuff about her bridge crew, but we don't and they continue to be flat uninteresting and undefined characters. Now the actor that plays booker does feel like he's going throught the motions as he either has a bored face on, or a resting B face look of how the hell did my agent get me into this.
I'm not going to say that Martin-Green is a bad actress, she's not, but she doesn't fill a room like Shatner, or Stewart or Brooks.
The side characters that they do give stories to like Tilly or Stamets are a combination of annoying or just going through the motions.
They bought back Airiam, and it was like, she's still nothing.
The most interesting character is the new First Officer, and they literally had him spend a whole episode talking about how awesome Michael is to both her current and future self.
The storyline itself is interesting, the Villains could be really interesting, but they really haven't developed them very well. They have justifications supposedly, but they're not enough to make them sympathetic, and they're not strong enough at chewing scenery to make them real villains.
I guess I'm in this to the end, because I'm either hoping that Michael dies. Or Red Forman shows up in his time weapon and erases Discovery from time and we find out that without her the galaxy is a better place.
But we know she's going to end up as the head of the federation.

Which...in its own 'Trekian way' is hilarious.
How many Trek Actors have bitched and moaned about not getting enough character development over the years? Yar, Dr. Crusher, Ensign Kim, Chakotay?
Oh yeah? Sign on for this nonsense! See how that feels!

When I think about it, the original series was really focused on Kirk, Spock and McCoy. But the other characters still came across, even if they weren't in every episode (Chekhov wasn't even on the show until later and was never a big role). Same with Next Generation, DS9, Strange New Worlds, even Voyager. I think part of it was the formula - most episodes had a "main" story and a secondary character-type story. But Discovery I couldn't even tell you most of the characters' names.

On TNG you believed any one of the main cast members could take over command of the ship if they had to. Some less successfully than others but if I were an ensign I wouldn't worry as much as I would if Tilly suddenly sat in the chair. Even Troi had her chance and did a fine job.
I guess it helped that they built each character up over many seasons so we knew that, while they had flaws, they were all capable officers.

Never thought of that, but it's actually pretty funny. Like a nervous person scared of driving and mortified of talking to people getting hired to drive a city bus just to be put into a position to help them face their fears.
