C-Train has derailed at Rocky Ridge.

Westbound train has gone all the way through the end of the tracks.

Westbound Crowchild is totally shut down at Stoney and eastbound will be partially closed as well.

They had to extricate the driver and he is on the way to the hospital.

Here is a video of the scene:

Whoa - looking at that video the train looks a good 50 feet past the end of the tracks. I can't really think of a good reason why it would be so far off the tracks? Even if you went the wrong direction (as that's the end of the line), you'd think it would be easy to stop. I guess I'm talking myself into some sort of mechanical failure.

Or driver health issue. Passed out with hand on the switch?

On the radio they said the driver is a woman in her early 50's and is in serious condition in the hospital. There were three other people on the train and they didn't sustain any injuries.

Make you sure you pass judgment as swiftly as possible. Especially in the absence of information.

I don't see any judgment being passed in the post. Just a guess at what happened. I would guess the two likely scenarios are mechanical issue or driver health issue (unconscious or incapacitated). Hard to image driver error in this case.

I'm gonna call it now. This is related to either text messaging, and or instatweetering some type of dessert.

So the 2 posts above mine guessing what happened are OK, but mention something beyond anyone's control and it is over the line? Well OK then.

It was around 7am. It was going north to the end of the line so not surprising it was almost empty.
