Only way it makes sense is if a couple prime draft picks come back to offset the remaining years or if the Flames ship expensive 4th liners like Stajan or Bouma out as well. Even then Stajan won't be going anywhere before a playoff push.
As an aside.. as Derrick Pouliot totally busted in Pittsburg? 23 years old, waiver eligible next season, maybe the Penguins are done, former 8th overall pick. Calgary has plenty of D prospects to give icetime to in the minors but wouldn't mind him cheap as a reclamation prospect. Thought I haven't been following his development at all.

Fleury worries me so I agree 100%
But if they believe he's the stopgap for their prospects then it's a good move, as they could do the goalie move, get rid of the Wideman contract and still have room to add a forward.

Wern't there rumors of flames looking at Bozak durring the season? A line of Bennett-Bozak-Versteeg would be a pretty good 3rd line. That said the extra year of Bozak contract is a bit of a killer.
IMO i would rather the flames trade for a player like Bozak than Iggy. I'm not saying Bozak has to be the player the flames trade for, but someone who is not so "fading skills" kind of player.

Just think we can squeeze them for more. There isn't a market for Fluery and it's crunch time to move him.

Yes but I believe the acquired player cannot play for the new team.

sure, but acquisition costs skyrocket with a player like that too... not to mention that once the season is over, you'd try to protect Bozak from expansion draft...
a true rental player you don't...
what each adds to the playoff run, for what price, is the calculus going on in every GM office.

Bozak makes a lot of sense depending on cost.
He is a RHS C, who can win faceoffs (56% this year.). He can put up points too.
With Toronto looking to make the playoffs I am not sure why they would move him unless they are getting something else that will help them now. I don't know what we would have that we could afford to give up that help them out, unless they think Wideman can help them.
As far as the expansion draft goes I would protect Bozak over Brouwer.

Yuck to Bozak. He's just not that good, and Bennett's development is paying off - so we need to stick with that.

definitely seems like TO would be buyers rather than sellers at the deadline. Tonight's game is a big one for toronto...
Bozak would be probably an early 2nd round pick, considering Eaves went for a second just the other day...

Yes. I've taken that day off almost every year. Even if it's a boring day trade wise, it's a day full of hockey talk.
It's a great day of hockey.

Jim Rutherford was on the NHL Network and says there has been no interest from other teams in MAF recently.
He also stated he would prefer to keep him and then sort it out at the end of the season. Says Fleury wants to play and be a starter though.

Just as Eklund updated his blog about a possible move that sees maf go to the flames and the pens then bringing in shattenkirk....

I think what I gather from everything I have heard is MAF wants to be dealt. He wants to play now and start. JR would rather keep him until the end of the season and then trade him off or buy him out if necessary. There is a French article that Pens fans keep saying shows that MAF will waive his NMC to be exposed but that is not what I gather from it. I think he was dodging the question more or less. I can't see him giving up millions of dollars on a buyout to be chosen by LV when even if he decided he would go there he could take the buyout and sign a new deal there which would make way more sense financially. Someone who reads French can probably understand it better than I can.

Wouldn't be that interested in bozak. Seems like a very similar player to what Stajan was when he was acquired. Good offensive numbers but mostly because of the icetime he's had on a poor team over the years.
