There is a buffer between posted speed limit and design speed limit for safety. It's pretty much guaranteed that, in North America, if you're doing 20km/h or more over the speed limit, no matter "how nice" the conditions, the road is not designed for those speeds and eventually you'll get into, or cause, an accident.
So 150km/h on a "secret road" is a really scary thought. Especially since the "secret road" is likely a rural highway with a posted speed limit of 90km/h...

... and an EMS response time of probably at least 30 minutes and transport time to a tertiary care ER of likely somewhere over an hour. Not that I'm against speeding ... just something to factor in when deciding if it's worth the risk.

I haven't had time to read the whole thread and I'm not trying to take either side here (the speeders or the "follow every rule of the road to a tee" guys), but one thing that works well, that I think everyone that reads this thread should try (I've been doing this for awhile), is try starting in the far right lane, if it is too slow for your liking then move into the middle lane, STILL too slow for you?, THEN move into the far left lane If EVERYONE drove this way then I think our roads would move a lot smoother. But I understand if some of you want to drive in the left lane simply because it is your right to do so, because I guess no one can really stop you if you're going the limit.

You do sound like a bit of a basketcase, though, whether people are mis-reading your tone, or whatever. I don't disagree with much of what you're saying, but you are crazy. Or so it seems.

Piqued or perturbed is far as I let my emotions run when it comes to the daily traffic grind. Raging or stewing endlessly is a waste of emotion. BUD.

Going to comment on the lane closure topic and how others travelling to the end of the closed lane either impede or help the flow of traffic.
Please play with this website. http://www.traffic-simulation.de/
More specifically, choose the lane closure option. Tweak the options a little bit and you will notice two things. One is that flow is best when vehicles merge ahead of time when the speed different between both lanes is negligible. Second, as soon as a vehicle travels up the closed lane to the end and is forced to merge into traffic, the inability to get to speed instantly slows down the traffic flow. So merge ahead of time and this wouldn't happen.
Now, that theory is completely thrown out the window because you have rubberneckers and it only takes one person to travel to the end to royally screw up the flow for everyone. That is, if they are allowed to merge
As for the main topic on hand, slower traffic stay right.... try using the simulation "Uphill Grade". The trucks (black) are the slower traffic and when not in the right lane, hold up the left lane considerably.

It takes me less than two hours go to to Edmonton and under an hour to go to Red Deer. And I talked on my cell and sent and received text messages as well.
Count me in as one of the major speedsters.

Any chance you could post when you will likely be on Hwy 2 so I can stay off it? I don't really want to be involved in your death wish.
160 while talking and texting on your cell. What an absolute hero you are.....

Well, when I talked on my cell, I'd slow down to 140. Texting reduces my speed to about 125 since it's more difficult

That might be a little dangerous. The only time that is acceptable is if your buddy gets off work at 4:30 when you have tickets to a BOA at Rexall at 7:00. THEN it's okay to average 210km'h the whole way there.

I hope this guy isn't one of those twits who on a congested day on hwy 2 swerve in and out of lanes depending on which one is the fastest at any given second. People who swerve in and out of lanes at high speeds irregardless of other people on the road deserve a long, painful death caused from internal bleeding from wrapping themselves around a light post as to not hurt anyone else. The world would be a better place, there would be less idiots on the road and they wouldn't breed little would-be road hogs too.
Back to hwy 2 when congested on a Friday afternoon. I went up to Edmonton for the Labor Day rematch last week and traffic on the highway was pretty bad in spots. Bad enough that tankers, trucks, other slow moving traffic were congested in the right lane while I was cruising for portions at about 125 or so moving to the right when possible when faster moving traffic approached from behind. However there were stretches where the right lane was impossible to move into due to traffic volume and even the left lane had congestion to the point of only moving at about 110. In these stretches there were a couple of ######bags behind me who would swerve in and out of lanes cutting people off in both lanes to jockey up the large cluster of cars to no avail considering the congestion lasted for at least half hour stretches. A few close calls later (I mean crap your pants close) I arrive in Edmonton and sure enough at the first set of lights in the same position as me in another lane are the same ######bags that endangered countless lives on the drive up (For all that effort and risk they failed to even get ahead in the grand scheme of things). There is no need for any ######baggery at this level anywhere.

Yeah I think you're BSing as well, but on the chance you aren't, just make the trip one way next time, and stay with your mental midget brethren.

Does that help you with your texting at 125 too?
Read any good novels on the way while you're at it? Do you have one of those DVD players upfront with a hidden cutoff button so you can multitask even further?
