It’s been a pretty terrible start to the season. 1 win in 5 games while scoring a total of 6 goals does not make us look like the supposed top team everyone thought we’d be. Tommy has his work cut out.

Heavily rotated squad. 2 points dropped. Very disappointing.

I’m Scottish and obviously follow their leagues and also go and watch Cavalry. In my opinion, the standard of the CPL is still below the Scottish championship (2nd tier of Scottish football) and miles below the premiership. Scottish football doesn’t get the greatest rep and is dominated by Celtic and Rangers but outside of those two there are some very good teams in the top tier and most of the second tier who would demolish Cavalry. Don’t get me wrong I love going to Cavalry games and there are some good players but it’s definitely still below that level.

The Scottish Championship (2nd tier) is actually a very competitive league and my team just won it to get back into the premiership. It went close to the last day. I’d encourage you all to watch Footy Adventures on YouTube - great football channel which has a lot of Scottish content. Give it and the SPL a try - you might enjoy it.

Edit: watch footy adventures “the worlds loudest trophy day” video for a wee look at my team Dundee United winning the league last week

Was thinking of Inverness and not Dundee United when I made the comparison.

Footy Adventures is one of my favourite YouTube channels. Some very interesting videos covering all levels of Scottish football.

Finally watched the HFX match and I realize it was a heavily rotated squad but man Tommy sure does hate going for a second goal to kill off matches. Once they got the goal they dropped their press box intensity and positioning and allowed HFX to gain more and more position and that turned into momentum. Bit of a mistake by Kobza not stepping to his man fast enough and it’s a tie game.

Little mistakes are killing this team right now. I guess the good news is those can be hopefully be eliminated but ultimately this team needs to start scoring some goals. They seem allergic to getting the ball into dangerous areas and their set pieces haven’t been picking up the slack like they did last year

Edit: tactically it looks like they consistently pushed Kamden a lot higher against HFX than they had previously this year which allows him to use his pace and create more time and space for the winger on his side.

Decided to extend the long weekend next week and head out to Van with a buddy to catch the Cavs / Caps game, there's a small supporters section that likely will be there. Looking forward to Leg 2!

I can see the discussions now.....

CPL - "Do you have a wealthy owner?"
St. Laurent - "No"
CPL - "Do you have a stadium?"
St. Laurent - "No"
CPL - "Okay. Good chat."

Not sure how suitable Claude-Robillard is anymore but if the Impact played 15 years there it should be good enough for CPL. If CS St Laurent can find some solid investors and the stadium gets the green light it could be a great situation. With CF Montreal's endless PR issues I think there is a chance a club in Montreal could become the best in the league if done right.

CS St Laurent have put out a statement in response to the rumours. Not denying them but mentioning there are things that have to be put in place for it to happen. Focusing on Ligue 1 Quebec for now.

Quote:
We appreciate the recognition of the CPL and their recognition of the success of Ligue1 clubs across Canada. The possibility of joining the CPL in the future is an exciting prospect, but we understand that it requires careful consideration and the right conditions for our organization to thrive. This includes securing a committed ownership group and securing a viable stadium solution, among other factors.

To date, no formal decision has been made and we remain dedicated to our mission within Ligue1 Québec. We will continue to keep our supporters and the community informed of any significant developments.

Another two points dropped. Came out flat as a pancake in the second half and let York back in it

Aird’s set piece delivery was incredible. Cavalry absolutely sucks in open play attacking. Need to figure that out asap.

Feels like Cavalry didn't show up to play until they went down. No losses in 5 but some really underwhelming results this year.

Liked Shaw's play today. Myroniuk has a lot of potential and hope to see more of him.

Missed the first goal entirely and only caught Wright's finish but Lucas Dias giveaways led to both goals against. The second one just a gift that Wright pounces on. Terrible pass to Trafford and then just throws his hands in the air.

For someone with a supposed high pedigree he really struggles at times. There's glimpses of talent that you see like against the Whitecaps but it's wrapped up in some real struggles.

Not to make too many excuses for him but it is his first pro season and playing against men. His decision making will need to quicken up if he’s going to succeed but as you say the talent is definitely there

Trafford also can’t just let that ball go right through him, as terrible as it is.

We need to start winning, but overall I’m having a blast this year. The popularity of the Cavs is really evident in this city now. Toby is by far the most talented player on the field each game, and Aird continues to be the unheralded workhorse of this team.

Martin Nash out as head coach of York. Former Cavalry player Mauro Eustaquio is the interim head coach. Guessing the owners wanted to get their own manager in but I'm not sure why now vs the past offseason.

During his time at Cavalry a lot of people credited Nash for the club's success. York has not been good with him in charge but I think a large part of that is the poor roster that York has put together. How much of that roster is his doing vs Angus McNab (who I think was an absolute disaster and couldn't be bothered to be in the same country as the club he ran) I'm not sure.

Hopefully the Vancouver Canucks are giving an inspirational pregame speech to the Whitecaps as we speak.

Montgomery just feels like a liability back there. Brooks looks up for it. Cavalry look decent tonight.
