Wonder if Weegar got any votes. He had a hell of a season on a bad team.

I think that Hughes wins this year, especially since the NHL voters seem to love to switch up who wins year to year. I don't think that there have been that many players with any major awards who have won multiple trophies in a long time. Other than Karlsson I don't think there any active players with more than one Norris trophy. I don't know if it is increasing parity among NHL players or if a previous win is seen as a negative in an attempt to spread around accolades.

I think he will show up on the list with a few 4th and 5th place votes.

^^ Agree with above, but I dont think that's a bad thing.
These are narrative awards. The narrative goes, you need to be way way better than everyone else to deserve to be a multiple time winner. (By the same token, MacKinnon should win Hart hands down.)

Personally, I like Makar and Josi a lot more than Hughes, but I think Hughes wins.
Interesting how they're all western.

Yeah about as surprising as having to pay taxes.
It can be like the Jack Adams where a player on a surprise team can win the the players are close. So I think that works in Hughes favor.

Makar is a top 3 player in the league. With McMickey and Mackinnon as the other 2. So I am not sure how someone below him would get the award.

I agree, I think Makar should win it. The points are all really close. Hughes has 2 more points than Makar and 7 more than Josi, but both guys have more goals. Hughes has a way more favourable +/- than either, but that is probably the weakest stat to factor in.
All of them get almost identical time on time per game, however Makar plays way more on the PK than the other 2. Hughes and Josi average about 0:30 shorthanded time on ice per game, while Makar averages about 2:30 per game and has more shorthanded points than both combined. The fact he is relied on more for killing penalties and the position is defense after all, should push him over the top IMO.

Makar has taken a bit of a dip relative to seasons past but you'd be a fool to not take him over Josi.
Probably bias because he will be in a flames uniform down the line. Shrugs.

I can't decide who I would take between MacKinnon or Makar, if I was forced to pick one to build my team around.
What I do know, however, is McDavid wouldn't even factor into the conversation for me.

Right now it's Makar, but only because he's 3 years younger.
If they are the same age and you're getting to pick one guy at 18 then I think I'd lean Mackinnon, just because an elite Center like him is still the hardest thing to get in the NHL.
As good as Makar is there are guys like Josi, Fox, etc who are still elite dmen who you can sometimes find later in the draft.

I don't have the time to go through this and pick a part how silly a take it is, so here:
https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/c...-close-8561908
An article that does a direct comparison of Makar and Hughes and includes stats from some other guys that goes across quite a few factors. Makar shouldn't even be a finalist this year. He got name votes.
This vote is going to be close, but based on actual regular season performance it should not be.

Decent enough article except for the ridiculous PK take.
If you're playing 38 seconds on the PK the metrics aren't comparable to playing 2:30 on the PK.
Getting the tail end of the PK against the second unit is not the same as playing top PK pairing.

Come on, you can't argue with an unbiased write-up in Vancouverisawesome.com.

Oh the article was definitely written with a purpose, but acting like that stats are lying because of where the article published is silly talk.

Yeah, that's the one weak part. But everything else is just so heavily slanted towards Hughes it matters a lot less. The fact that he was a drag on Nathan MacKinnon blows my mind.
