Jordan I hope you get a chance to support the Sun Devils. That is some very good hockey especially since they will be joining the NCHC next year.

Delta Center actually will be the smallest NHL arena by seating capacity – 14,000 for hockey, including some obstructed seats that they would be wiser not to sell. (The Jets have a capacity of 15,294.)
But the rest of your comment is spot-on. An arena that is actually certain to be built in Salt Lake City is infinitely better than an empty parcel of land that Meruelo may or may not be able to buy in Phoenix, and may or may not be able to put an arena on if he does buy it.

Even more evidence Meurello doesn’t respect the history of the franchise.
Apparently the Coyotes couldn’t be bothered to get Doans banner. Fan saved it from being trashed

I have to admit there's a lot of shameful joy watching this franchise fail. The scars of the Jets leaving still remain and were deeply cut. The Phoenix Market never deserved our team and never embraced hockey, I'm glad the team is moving on. Good riddance.

Looks like there will be a BOG conference call today to approve the sale and likely a press conference in SLC tomorrow to make it official.

I'm not the world's biggest Shane Doan fan, but he deserves far better than that.

Shouldn't be too smug. I don't think Bettman will be so patient with Winnipeg. From The Athletic this February.
A vocal minority has criticized the Jets
for complacency since I began covering
the team.
The well-documented problem is that the minority has grown, the sellout streak is history and Winnipeg is now reporting a 27 percent decrease in season ticket sales over the last three years, from 13,000 to under 9,500.

Honestly I do not understand that. You already paid for it. Your team is moving. You dont want it and the guy is already there.
Wouldnt it make more sense to just give it to him? And if he wants to trash it thats his business but to just toss it in a dumpster out back? Give me a break.
I dislike using the term 'classless' because that would presume to make me some arbiter of 'class' but this incident seems pretty objective.

In Pheonix’s defence. The team was run like a tire fire. Any fanbase would struggle with that train wreck.

As I understand it, the law requires ownership of a "top level" sports franchise, but they'd likely make the argument that the AHL is the highest level being played in Arizona after the Yotes move.
|
You could make that argument before the move too.

I also feel for the fans. I know they don't have a lot but that guy that gave Doan his banner clearly cares about the team and the fans like that are the ones that have been let down by the years of poor ownership.

I think you've gotta chuck Management in there at the same time. Its not like they've been knocking it out of the park either.

Thats true. People (me included) joke about the fan base, but its been death by 1000 cuts there. People cared, or wanted to. Their ownership literally left the rest holding the tatters of what was and could have been.
