Conroy got a deal he liked. But his bosses didn’t like it, so here we are.

Well, common sense dictates that if Allen got a (potential) 2nd. The rumor of Markstom (100 percent salary) for a 1st and Holtz sounds very believable.
I would have done that trade. That pick will most likely be in the Iginla range.

Raanta is cheaper and only signed for this year.

lol did I say that? It was the deal that Conroy agreed to that got nixed by management. Seravelli, Dreger, and McKenzie have all reported it at this point.
Conroy's trades have been good and I am sure the value was fine.

The value was apparently not fine for Conroy though. Otherwise presumably the deal would have gone through.

3rd for a 2 mill backup = 1st+Holtz for 6 mill starter?

Depends on which insiders you believe. Several say Conroy had a deal with the Devils, but his bosses nixed it.

Are people serious when they say this eliminates NJ from Markstrom contention? All this does is drive up the price in the summer or next year when Allen fails to solve their goaltending woes.
Insane to me this in my way reflects poorly on Conny or the flames or doesn’t bode well for the trade market.

On most NHL teams the deal goes through when the GM wants it to.
Here? Not convinced that’s how it goes down

When Dreger and McKenzie are reporting it I believe it. Dreger is connected directly to Nonis and McKenzie has never made #### up.

Do you have a question (or a point), or are you just reiterating what I said?

Hope he lays an absolute egg and makes Jerseys appetite for a solid goalie that much richer!

What they say is there was an ask for Markstrom retained but disagreement on the price. So NJ said they would not need retention. But that was a new deal with presumably different and lesser compensation coming back. The reporting also says Calgary always had Mercer in the ask. So I suspect the Markstrom retained ask was 1st+Holtz+ Mercer for Markstorm retained, and NJ said no, but we will give you 1st plus Holtz for Markstrom and Calgary said no.

I question how a backup goalie going for historical market value means that a 34 year old starter would be worth the biggest goalie return since Schneider?

Keep spending assets on goaltenders that lose you games in the long run. Just reinforces the idea that good goaltending doesn't really come cheap.
