Don't want to ruin your buzz, but if you bought Cubans on the beach, they are almost certainly not Cubans.

Reminds me of when Burke held on to UFA Cammalleri at the TDL years ago because teams wouldn't meet his ask. It hurt not to recoup the pick in the short-term, but setting that precedent is important in future dealings (especially for a new GM like Conny, I would imagine).

I’m sure there’s a historian here amongst us but is this true? Did Burke really “set a precedent” and did he have trades after the Cammy situation that appeared to be greater than expected where we can draw a line to this strong stance? Because it felt more like losing an asset for nothing

For sure, if Flames don't like Holtz and won't trade Mercer they have several other options...... Casey, Lameenaho, 2024 1st, 2025 1st, WPG 2nd, NJ 2nd. Our cupboards are bare in a lot of spots.

Just to add fuel to the fire, but NJ just earned a couple flippable picks to throw at CGY for Markstrom if they needed additives

I've posted it before but the only value retained by not trading Cammy was Burke's ego.

I don't know if there is any way to prove this - I'm just going off of Burke's own logic after said trade deadline.
My own thoughts - Feaster was dummied on a couple of those big trades (Iggy, Bouwmeester) and embarrassed by the O'Reilly fiasco where we almost lost a top-10 pick for nothing. So maybe at the time there was more reason for Burke to impose a hard-stance.
Just thought it was a decent anecdote, especially considering Conroy credits Burke for teaching him a lot while he was AGM.
EDIT: striked out O'Reilly portion, corrected by IAmNotKenKing page 1470

I suppose with Hanifin and Toffoli gone, we need to have at least one name to spell incorrectly.

With more than 2 hours to go, till the deadline
Will the Flames make any additional trades?

Honestly, I don't think so.
I don't even know what this team is. Do they realistically think they can trade two very important defensman, and still make the playoffs? No way.
But they still seem to be playing Markström, like they're trying to make the playoffs.
Flames do this all the time. We'll miss the playoffs by 4 points, draft a meh player. And do it all over again next year.

Sportsnet 960 speculating Avs seem to be preparing for big splash trade with these minor moves.
Looks like a little over 2 mill in cap space available.
Markstrom 50% retained might just be doable if they a move another salary the other way.
2024 1st - Ritchie - and another high pick or B prospect - cap dump
Can't see them winning Cup with Georgiev as their starter.

They should but that would signal a rebuild and as we all well know the team loves their semantics. This is a retool and as such you can’t bottom out without a goalie. Markstrom has to be a haul or else we’re just shipping out the one thing keeping us afloat for funsies. Keep Markstrom, finish 22nd, stay the course.
I would love Markstrom to go because a rebuild is forced then. Vladar and Wolf gonna get shelled
