I haven't been to their new location, but Rau Bistro used to be very good, and look to have it on their menu:

Anyone know where to get chain mail type pot / pan scrubber in Calgary?

No, I don’t feel like going to Home Depot to DIY one.

Cool. Thanks. I would never have thought they’d have something like that. I guess it’s for cleaning gardening tools or something?

They have a lot of expensive cool kitchen stuff!

I was there and was going to pick up a garlic press.. sorry I don't need a $60 garlic press or a $220 mandoline!

They still have lots of cool stuff at decent prices though.

Does anybody know where I can get a Toronto Blue Jays youth sized jersey with a custom name/number? I can find lots of sites selling adult sizes but nothing for youth (other than one somewhat dodgy looking website).

I have a Tupperware garlic press that works really well. They've redesigned it a bit but the basic mechanism is still the same.

Crossroads prolly has a Tupperware rep that can order it for you.

For the amount of $15-20 garlic presses I have gone through over the years, I'd probably be ahead if I went with a $60 one!

Speaking of garlic and Lee Valley, I found myself with an excessive amount of garlic as my father-in-law got a deal somewhere (as old Italian men tend to do). So I got one of these so I could freeze it before it got too old:

https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop...ray?item=HK325

I found it easier to eject all of the garlic into a different container once frozen (vs. doing it on an as-needed basis, plus I could then freeze a new tray to use up my gifted garlic stash). But I'm still using up those handy little cubes.

Oh now that's a good idea. My wife bought a big bag of peeled garlic once but even in the fridge it grew mold so fast, FAR faster than we could possibly use it. That would have been super handy.

I tend to just mince it with a knife since I generally have a knife out for cutting other things.

Agree. I have moved away from using the press (unless doing a big batch to freeze). Why get another item dirty when it is so easy to chop a clove or two? Plus sometimes it is nice to have larger chunks, depending on the dish.

I don't even own or have ever used a garlic press. We never used garlic growing up.

Garlic powder has its uses, like dishes where fresh garlic would be overpowering. I use it in chili.

You should do yourself a favour and get some fresh garlic though. It's so useful. Learn proper knife skills and you won't need a press.

Yes we are heathens but one of these containers of minced garlic lasts us all year.

We home cook nearly every meal and use garlic very frequently.

I think the laziest items I own is a hard-boiled egg slicer and a butter slicer, which portions out a 454g block of butter into 3 x 15 roughly equal sized portions.

I'd be worried it would go bad before it all got used.
