Golden Eye is awesome.
One small gripe is the opening scene with the jump into the airplane. The stunt person apparently ACTUALLY made it into the plane, but they chose to not have that footage in the movie.....WHY NOT?!?!

Goldeneye was an incredible return for Bond. We were pretty big fans back then, always on the TBS marathons, so it was a bit like when Star Wars came back for us, except the movie outdid it's expectations. It, uh, actually belongs in that other thread. To bad the rest of the Brosnan movies were mediocre. But Goldeneye is the best Bond movie of the past 30 years. Yes, better than that one. That one too.

I would agree with you right up until Skyfall.
I am sorry, but Skyfall was a masterpiece. My favourite Bond movie of all time. That one just hit everything right out of the park.
I am not a 'Bond Purist' I genuinely felt that Brosnan was the best Bond, but Skyfall was the best Bond film.
1. Skyfall
2. GoldenEye

Casino Royale was the ultimate return for me.
I knew a Bond film could bring what usually made it a guilty pleasure, but never knew one could be that good.
Skyfall felt less like Bond for me than other entries. Maybe that's why Skyfall fans loved it. It took a more intimate/personal approach, and initially it just didn't do it for me. Maybe I need to revisit it.
A lot of the Craig films following CR had immense potential with their premise and the actors they casted for villains, but in the execution fell short. There were a couple abrupt endings that literally felt like we got half a movie. None of them swung for the fences quite like the first (imo).

Golden Eye was amazing in the theatre. When he walked out to do his shooting into the screen thing we all went nuts!
Holy crap. that was the last movie I watched at the Market Mall theatres.

Casino Royal was cringy "look at me not be Bond" nonsense. It's Bond, ####ing embrace ti or get the hell out.
Skyfall was just a series of silly things to get to the stupid conclusion.

Okay, here's a hardball question.
What actually passes the stupid/cringe test for you?
The fresh angle CR took was brilliant for a franchise trying to modernize itself and appeal to a new generation. It worked, after all.

95 was a crazy good year for movies. These were all options for movie goers on GoldenEye 2nd weekend:
Toy Story
Casino
Ace Ventura When Nature Calls
Apollo 13
Braveheart
GoldenEye

I gotta put Casino Royale above GoldenEye. But it's close.

This is a good writeup on it:
https://www.reddit.com/r/JamesBond/c...casino_royale/
The movie felt like they were almost embarrassed to be making a Bond movie, so tried to change everything about Bond a bit. "See! He likes his Martini with three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it's ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel." You didn't see that coming did you??? Not when he's playing poker instead of Baccarat.

Casino Royale is such a product of it's time. The going back to Batman Begins/Star Wars prequel thing. How heavily The Bourne Identity influences it too. The aforementioned Texas Hold Em.

Batman Begins is great, so is the Bourne trilogy (we won't talk about the later tack ons).
How dare it be a product of its time?

I know, I know....ugh...I hated the Bourne trilogy.
For two major reasons.
1. I loathe 'Shaky-cam.'
2. I couldnt get over it. I had read the books way, way before the film was even a glimmer of a thought, and I got really excited for the movie aaannd.....it was a giant let-down.
I mean, they took the characters and the basic premise of Bourne and then everything else is completely different.
I dont like to be a 'book snob' but this was one was so egregious I just couldnt get over it.

One of these is not like the others. When Nature Calls is an abomination.

How dare you!
The rhino scene is one of the greatest scenes in comedy in the last 30 years.
