Sid nailed in it in his rant. A real manager would have kept Berrios in despite what Atkins wanted.

Even Jon Morosi said this morning on Jays Talk that it wasn't a good trade.
Blake Murphy is a big analytics guy but he hated the move with Berrios.

Atkins has to be axed, or else nothing really changes.
And Atkins can't (rightly) fire Schneider for doing his bidding.

I just looked at the final fWAR tally for the season, and incredibly only one position player finished with negative fWAR, and that was Dejong at -0.9 fWAR.
Problem is that while nobody was really dragging the team down, there were a few guys with only 1-2.5 fWAR that were expected to produce quite a bit more than that.
Vladdy 12th on the team with 1.0 fWAR is mind blowing.

I think that might make sense. I went through the 3B available as UFA, he's likely the best one. That probably makes him expensive, but it isn't my money. The team is in a window right now, I think you try and keep him. If you have young infielders coming up the 2B slot is open - let one of them take that.
Better to try and improve on Merrifields 1.5 WAR than Chapman's 3.5 WAR, imo.

People fixated on the Berrios swap.
This team can't score runs. That's a bigger issue.

This isn't one or the other. Both can be true, and an attempted fix for both is the same solution.

I will absolutely fixate on the Berrios swap (in addition to the ongoing fixation on the anemic offense).
Analytics are great for baseball over the course of a huge 162 game season. The law of large numbers always wins, so it makes sense to make decisions based on the numbers for the whole season. Typically, you'll have an edge.
What analytics fail at are they are less reliable in small samples, and do not take in to account any human element. Things such as emotion, momentum (a very real thing in sports) confidence, etc.
The Twins gaining a confidence boost from having Berrios lifted when he was dealing. The Jays feeling uncertainty and confusion at the move, losing confidence in the process.
Anyone who has ever played a competitive sport can put themselves in those players shoes (on both sides) and confidently say that in those situations you need to shelf the math and use common sense based on what your senses are telling you.

I have no interest in paying up to re-sign Chapman. The money can be better spent elsewhere. If there are no elite 3Bs in free agency, I would be fine going with Biggio - get him bulking up a bit over the winter, and coming back stronger. His bat is better than Chapman overall, and he is good defensively. And the money saved can go to an elite bat to put behind Guerrero.

I didnt like the trade for Varsho because we traded the wrong catcher.
I cant stand Kirk. If they dont have a talk with him about being in shape, 5 8 and 245 is not the right shape. Buck is right about him being an automatic double play. I should not be able to outrun a professional athlete when im in my 50s

Short fat guys who run like the guys playing over 60 slow pitch need to be hitting for power and not dinking singles all over the field. If he can't slug at least 200 points better than his average the singles and walks are not as useful because he clogs the base paths.
I've grown to appreciate Jansens more power based approach where he's fine with hitting 220 if he can still get the extra base hits. Plus he's still has a high walk rate.

Key issue that existing the whole season, Jays can not hit against quality pitching.
Not really surprised with the outcome of the series,
As for the decision to pull Berrios, it clearly was not the managers decision

Pitching was great. Just need a Ryu replacement and try to keep Hicks.
The lineup needs a major overhaul. Chapman, Belt, Keirmaier, and Merrifield can all walk. Find some actual power in the LF, 3B, and DH positions.

You give Chapman a QO for sure.
He probably declines and then you get a pick when he signs elsewhere.
If he accepts the QO you get ~3fWAR 3B with stellar D for about $20 million for one more year while Barger and Orelvis season up in the minors a bit more.
It's a no brainer IMO

Chapman is only position player out of the UFAs I keep.
Kiermeier wants to play on grass.
Belt wanted to go out with a bang and swung hard and wild both games. Easily replaceable, both for the DH bat and the veteran presence.
Whit is fine but a dime a dozen.
Try and keep Hicks and Green but my guess is they are both moving on for a good pay check.
As for Kirk, my guess is most backup catchers wouldn’t do much better than him at bat when forced to play a lot more games than planned. Solid defensive catcher too.

Sporttrac has his "market value" as 6 years at $17.2MM. I agree 1 year at $20MM is better than that.

Chapman is going to get a contract that is in discussion as the worse of the decade in a few years is my prediction with how weak this years FA crop is
