Yes, everyone agrees with that. It's the objectively awful art we're sick of paying for and looking at.

Both pieces at Rocky Ridge are really good, IMO.

I like the Salmon mural on the Glenmore Trail underpass near Chinook. I am also a big fan of the Peace Bridge which has turned iconic. Those are the art projects I can get behind on.
The blue ring and the rocks on top of sticks? They are fricking eye sores. . Could you image instead of the sticks, that the underpass was decorated with images of Calgary from 1900. That would be symbolic and beautiful as the gateway to Calgary, instead of stupid sticks by a NYC caucasian artist claiming it to be native art when we have a native reserve just a few km away that could have been consulted instead.

I'm not saying I like some of the art in the city that has been on the wrong end of public furor, but which art pieces are 'objectively' bad to you, and why? Is it because you don't like they way they look? Or what they cost, based on what your eyes see?
For a city of 1.3 million people, these art pieces don't really cost much in the big scheme of things. Interchanges cost way more and cost taxpayers all the same. Art pieces, and their cost, are easy targets for people to attack when they don't like the art itself. If they like the art, the cost is usually not discussed. Don't forget that many of these art pieces employ local workers to fabricate and install, not including the artists who also may be local as well.

All art in this city, and others, have been the target of public furor. If decisions were made based on the public's initial reaction, then nothing would ever be built.

Remember the public backlash on the Peace Bridge and how it was the worst thing in the world, ever? Now people take pictures in front of it or get married on it.

I like the Peace Bridge, I think its pretty cool looking.
I'm not a fan of the Bowfort Towers because it looks like Garbage on the side of the Highway and I still dont like the Blue Ring because it just looks stupid.
"How much can we get for minimum effort?"
The only 'Art' involved in those is the 'Art of the Grift.'

I don't know how much they cost.
So these days this is how city planners operate: "Gee, I know these things are ugly AF, but it's all we can afford so let's proceed"

Good idea to bring up David Cerny. I didn't go to Prague to see his pieces particularly, but when I was there I did make sure to hit as many as I could reasonably see. Some I loved and thought were great and some were terrible IMO. That's the glory of public art though.

The one on the left doesn't exist in reality: https://www.instagram.com/p/BT3GAmblgKn/
I can't find anything online about the cost of the other one.
