Is this significantly higher than it's been in the past? It seems as though more and more players are ending up on try out contracts.

Not sure if the actual amount of PTO's has increased but the name recognition of those signing them has undoubtedly been upped.
Of that list I would suspect at least 15 of them to get deals. Some pretty good players at one time in that bunch.

Chiasson and Jokipaaka have a really good chance. More likely than not IMO.

Not really. Most of the Flames PTOs are really there to fill out Stockton.
According to Steinberg, Pelley, Yevenko, and Findlay have already signed AHL deals with Stockton. They are at camp as extra bodies and will most likely be assigned to Stockton once Stockton's main camp gets closer.
Maggio played the majority of last season in the ECHL is 26 years old and never had a NHL contract.
Olsen played senior AA last year.
Lowery has 8 points in 40 AHL games.
The reality is that for the Flames only Glass, Cramarossa, and Robak probably have shots at actual NHL contracts and in very minor depth roles. In the end they probably don't beat out anyone with a NHL contract.
Most of them are here so the Flames can ice 3 full practice groups up to the split squad game.

Chris Lee could make a decent #6/7 D. Hope the guy gets a contract.

@NHLBlackhawks
Drew Miller, John Mitchell and Mark Stuart are released from their PTOs. The camp roster stands at 30 forwards, 18 defensemen and 6 goalies.

I'd be lying through my teeth if I said I was surprised by these moves.
Take your early retirement, Stuart. You don't have it as an NHLer anymore and that is clear as day. Too bad but, you know, c'est la vie.
And better luck overseas Miller & Johnny Dangles, you thoroughly sub-mediocre mutts.

Good for him but doesn't change the fact that he's no good.

After seeing him, Glass won't make the roster but could easily get an AHL deal and be a fairly easy fourth line call up. So not "Hot Trash".

Mitchell released from his 2nd PTO too:
Quote:
Mitchell's stint with Columbus was short-lived, as he was released from his tryout Wednesday, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic Cleveland reports. Mitchell spent all of six days with the Blue Jackets, who may have just been trying to get insider information from his time with the rival Blackhawks. Unless he's willing to sign a minor-league deal or head overseas, the veteran center may have to consider retiring at this point.
