Sigalet has sure gotten a lot of praise and mentions in Flames media since people started questioning him on CP. I don't think it's a coincidence. I find that kind of comforting. Clearly the management keeps tabs on what's going on with the fans, and I doubt they'd be supporting Sigalet this much if they weren't convinced that he's just fine.

His defensive pairings and lack of team offense almost tanked the year last year.
Another slow start will fall on him 100%

Brodie's game and plus/minus improved considerably with Stone as his partner, and IMO the Flames improved dramatically as a result of Stone. The problem with Brodie before Stone was playing with the albatross Wideman. The Flames defense IMO is as good as the late 1980s. Brad has done a great job in the off season. The first game against the Oilers will be fun to watch in a large part because we will no longer have the two mans on defense.

That is revisionist history. We had poor goaltending and the team was getting used to a brand new system - it is very common to have some growing pains under a new coach. Overall, last year was a success for the team, going from lottery team to playoff team is a pretty good accomplishment for a first year coach.

Surprised Wideman hasn't found a team yet! (not)
Retirement announcement later this year?

Why can we never escape McDavid?

Canning him after 15 games would be nonsense. But another start that puts the team at a significant disadvantage would be extremely disappointing.
I imagine GG is giving thought to how to emerge from camp stronger this year.

Last seasons poor start was pretty predictable if you look at it.
New coach
New system
New defence partners
Top forward missed training camp by holding out.
#1 Centre recovering from a back injury.
What wasn't predictable was our goalies sucked as well.

Every point you raise is valid. And there will always be challenges. Last year's team was incredibly healthy and I'm not expecting similar luck this year.
Hamonic may struggle in a new system but there are plenty of good defensemen to cover for him.
There will be injuries but the current management team has had time to build depth.
If the goalies stink coming out of the gate, a move will have to be made so as not to lose the season.
I really believe this year should be based on results.
More wins in regulation
A higher playoff seeding
Some noise in the playoffs
And I would forgive missing 1 and 2 if 3 is accomplished.

The defense was just as bad as the goaltending. The player usages were mind boggling and the penalties and special teams were horrific.
Props to him for getting them all going by December but it seems to take him ten games before he gives up on a bad idea.
If ferland flops, brouwer anchors Backlund, or anything else goes wrong out of the gate and he decides to let it slide for ten games it's on him.

Learn his weaknesses, target them during the season. Scare him to not play good against the flames.

I'll be ripping into him ASAP if the team starts off slow and is under performing. I'm not a fan of his coaching style.

You'd think that after season like last year people would learn to have a little more patience outside of 15 games.

I don't think anybody is saying that the first 15 games are make or break, just that we're all expected this team to take a step forward and it would a bit concerning to see this team come out of the gate floundering and looking lost to start the season again.
We open in Edmonton and then are in Anaheim for game 3, here's hoping we can take at least one (if not both) of those games. We lose both and it's probably 'same old Calgary Flames' going through everyones head. Good, but never great.

All I ask, is that GG uses training camp to get the regular lines/pairings into game shape, and not for experimentation. It was understandable last season, being that he was new, and the system was new, but headed into this year GG knows what he has and what works, and so he needs to get those guys clicking prior to game 1 of the regular season. We have to slaughter the Oilers on opening night.
Gaudreau Monahan x
Tkachuk Backlund Frolik
x Bennett Versteeg

Giordano Hamilton
Brodie Hamonic
x Stone
Smith

Find the best fit for the open spots, otherwise the lineup should remain untouched.
